Reading the Bible in Historical Sequence Part 6Sýnishorn
896 BC Ahab’s sons, evil Ahaziah and his brother Jehoram, rule the Northern Kingdom for the next 14 years, honoring other gods. Allied with Judah and Edom the Northern Kingdom defeats disloyal Moab. During the battle the King of Moab captures and burns Edom’s prince (2 Kings 3:27; Amos 2:1). God takes Elijah to heaven and promotes Elisha.
Note 1 Kings 22:47–48: Under Solomon, Judah controlled Edom and enlarged its port on the Gulf of Aqaba to trade ore with Tarshish. During Jehoshaphat’s reign, the Northern Kingdom persuaded Jehoshaphat into a trade alliance earning him God’s rebuke. Wind wrecked his ships in port.
