Prayer Reset by Bob SorgeSýnishorn
Day 2: DECIDE
Reminder: Yesterday you identified your desire to know Christ. May this fiery desire for a friendship with Jesus continue to burn and grow all our days!
God gave us the power of decision. Our human will is one of our most valuable possessions. The very course of our lives is directed by the decisions we make: Faith. College. Career. Marriage. Kids. Church. Friendships. A simple decision can change everything.
In the same way, every holy resolve to obey God changes our lives profoundly.
A consistent prayer life starts with a calculated, heroic decision. Today’s decision to pray determines the course of tomorrow’s destiny.
This resolve to pray is crucial, but willpower alone isn’t enough. To cultivate a prayer life requires both our resolve and God’s help. We need His grace to follow through on this decision.
Jesus told us that just one thing is needed—deciding to hear and retain His word. When we sit before Him, read His word and talk to Him, we’re agreeing with Him that this is the most necessary thing. Look at these words of Jesus:
“But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:42)
What did Mary choose? She decided to sit at Jesus’ feet and hear His words. She understood the significance of the choice before her. Stopping and listening to Jesus was an opportunity she wasn’t about to miss.
Just like Mary, a life-altering choice is now before you. Stop. Decide to cultivate a Scripture-infused prayer life that cannot be taken away from you.
PRAY.
- Resolve, by God’s grace, to follow all the way through on this secret place RESET.
- Ask for His help to choose the one thing that is needed.
- Tell Him this isn’t an experiment or just another try. Your decision is firm.
- Devote yourself in a fresh way to God.
- Offer thanks because He’s going to help you.
