Psalms 120:1-7
Psalms 120:1-7 New Century Version (NCV)
When I was in trouble, I called to the LORD, and he answered me. LORD, save me from liars and from those who plan evil. You who plan evil, what will God do to you? How will he punish you? He will punish you with the sharp arrows of a warrior and with burning coals of wood. How terrible it is for me to live in the land of Meshech, to live among the people of Kedar. I have lived too long with people who hate peace. When I talk peace, they want war.
Psalms 120:1-7 American Standard Version (ASV)
In my distress I cried unto Jehovah, And he answered me. Deliver my soul, O Jehovah, from lying lips, And from a deceitful tongue. What shall be given unto thee, and what shall be done more unto thee, Thou deceitful tongue? Sharp arrows of the mighty, With coals of juniper. Woe is me, that I sojourn in Meshech, That I dwell among the tents of Kedar! My soul hath long had her dwelling With him that hateth peace. I am for peace: But when I speak, they are for war.
Psalms 120:1-7 New King James Version (NKJV)
In my distress I cried to the LORD, And He heard me. Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips And from a deceitful tongue. What shall be given to you, Or what shall be done to you, You false tongue? Sharp arrows of the warrior, With coals of the broom tree! Woe is me, that I dwell in Meshech, That I dwell among the tents of Kedar! My soul has dwelt too long With one who hates peace. I am for peace; But when I speak, they are for war.
Psalms 120:1-7 The Message (MSG)
I’m in trouble. I cry to GOD, desperate for an answer: “Deliver me from the liars, GOD! They smile so sweetly but lie through their teeth.” Do you know what’s next, can you see what’s coming, all you bold-faced liars? Pointed arrows and burning coals will be your reward. I’m doomed to live in Meshech, cursed with a home in Kedar, My whole life lived camping among quarreling neighbors. I’m all for peace, but the minute I tell them so, they go to war!
Psalms 120:1-7 King James Version (KJV)
In my distress I cried unto the LORD, and he heard me. Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, And from a deceitful tongue. What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue? Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper. Woe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, That I dwell in the tents of Kedar! My soul hath long dwelt With him that hateth peace. I am for peace: But when I speak, they are for war.
Psalms 120:1-7 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
In my trouble I cried to the LORD, And He answered me. Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, From a deceitful tongue. What shall be given to you, and what more shall be done to you, You deceitful tongue? Sharp arrows of the warrior, With the burning coals of the broom tree. Woe is me, for I sojourn in Meshech, For I dwell among the tents of Kedar! Too long has my soul had its dwelling With those who hate peace. I am for peace, but when I speak, They are for war.
Psalms 120:1-7 New International Version (NIV)
I call on the LORD in my distress, and he answers me. Save me, LORD, from lying lips and from deceitful tongues. What will he do to you, and what more besides, you deceitful tongue? He will punish you with a warrior’s sharp arrows, with burning coals of the broom bush. Woe to me that I dwell in Meshek, that I live among the tents of Kedar! Too long have I lived among those who hate peace. I am for peace; but when I speak, they are for war.
Psalms 120:1-7 Amplified Bible (AMP)
In my trouble I cried to the LORD, And He answered me. Rescue my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, And from a deceitful tongue. What shall be given to you, and what more shall be done to you, You deceitful tongue?— Sharp arrows of the warrior, With the burning coals of the broom tree. ¶Woe to me, for I sojourn in Meshech, and I live among the tents of Kedar [among hostile people]! [Gen 10:2; 25:13; Jer 49:28, 29] Too long my soul has had its dwelling With those who hate peace. I am for peace, but when I speak, They are for war.
Psalms 120:1-7 New Living Translation (NLT)
I took my troubles to the LORD; I cried out to him, and he answered my prayer. Rescue me, O LORD, from liars and from all deceitful people. O deceptive tongue, what will God do to you? How will he increase your punishment? You will be pierced with sharp arrows and burned with glowing coals. How I suffer in far-off Meshech. It pains me to live in distant Kedar. I am tired of living among people who hate peace. I search for peace; but when I speak of peace, they want war!
Psalms 120:1-7 The Passion Translation (TPT)
I was desperate for you to help me in my struggles, and you did! So come and deliver me now from this treachery and false accusation. O lying deceivers, don’t you know what is your fate? You will be pierced through with condemnation and consumed with burning coals of fire! Why am I doomed to live as an alien, scattered among these cruel savages? Am I destined to dwell in the darkened tents of desert nomads? For too long I’ve had to live among those who hate peace. I speak words of peace while they speak words of war, but they refuse to listen.
Psalms 120:1-7 English Standard Version 2016 (ESV)
In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me. Deliver me, O LORD, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue. What shall be given to you, and what more shall be done to you, you deceitful tongue? A warrior’s sharp arrows, with glowing coals of the broom tree! Woe to me, that I sojourn in Meshech, that I dwell among the tents of Kedar! Too long have I had my dwelling among those who hate peace. I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war!
