Mais Jésus leur dit : « Mon Père travaille depuis toujours, et moi aussi, je travaille. » À cause de cette parole, les chefs juifs cherchent encore plus à faire mourir Jésus. En effet, Jésus ne respecte pas le sabbat. Mais surtout il dit que Dieu est son Père, et ainsi, il se fait égal à Dieu.

In his defense Jesus said to them, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.” For this reason they tried all the more to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.

Jésus leur répondit : Mon Père est à l’œuvre jusqu’à présent, et moi aussi je suis à l’œuvre. Cette remarque fut pour eux une raison de plus pour chercher à le faire mourir car, non content de violer la loi sur le sabbat, il appelait encore Dieu son propre Père et se faisait ainsi l’égal de Dieu.
