Sèpan se te bèt ki te pi rize nan tout bèt Senyè Bondye te fè. Li di fanm lan konsa: — Eske Bondye te janm di piga nou manje donn tout pyebwa ki nan jaden an? Fanm lan reponn sèpan an: — Nou gendwa manje donn tout pyebwa ki nan jaden an. Men, kanta fwi pyebwa ki nan mitan jaden an, Bondye di: Piga nou manje ladan li, ata manyen piga nou manyen li. San sa, n'ap mouri kanmenm. Lè sa a, sèpan an di fanm lan: — Se pa vre. Nou p'ap mouri kras. Bondye di nou sa paske li konnen jou nou manje ladan l, je nou va louvri. N'a vin tankou Bondye, n'a konn sa ki byen ak sa ki mal. Fanm lan gade, li wè jan pyebwa a te bèl, jan fwi yo sanble yo ta bon nan bouch. Li santi li ta manje ladan l pou je l ka louvri. Li keyi kèk fwi. Li manje, li pote bay mari l ki manje tou. Manje yo fin manje, je yo louvri. Yo wè yo toutouni. Yo pran fèy fè rad mete sou yo. Nonm lan ak madanm li tande vwa Senyè Bondye nan jaden an pandan labriz diswa. Y'al kache nan mitan pyebwa nan jaden an pou Senyè Bondye pou wè yo. Men, Senyè a, Bondye a, rele nonm lan, li di l: — Kote ou ye? Nonm lan reponn li: — Mwen tande vwa ou nan jaden an, mwen pè. M'al kache pou ou, paske mwen toutouni. Senyè a, Bondye a, di l: — Ki moun ki di ou te toutouni? Eske ou te manje fwi pyebwa mwen te di ou pa manje a? Adan reponn: — Madanm ou te ban mwen an, se li menm ki ban mwen fwi a manje, mwen manje li. Senyè a, Bondye a, mande famn lan: — Poukisa ou fè sa? Fanm lan reponn li: — Se pa mwen non! Se sèpan an wi ki pran tèt mwen ki fè m manje l.

Parmi les bêtes sauvages que le SEIGNEUR Dieu a faites, le serpent est le plus rusé. Il demande à la femme : « Est-ce que Dieu vous a vraiment dit : “Ne mangez aucun fruit du jardin” ? » La femme répond au serpent : « Nous pouvons manger les fruits du jardin. Mais pour l’arbre qui est au milieu du jardin, Dieu a dit : “Ne mangez pas ses fruits et n’y touchez pas ! Sinon, vous mourrez.” » Le serpent répond à la femme : « Pas du tout ! Vous ne mourrez pas ! Mais Dieu le sait bien : le jour où vous en mangerez, vos yeux s’ouvriront. Vous serez comme des dieux, vous pourrez savoir ce qui est bien ou mal. » La femme se dit : les fruits de cet arbre sont beaux, ils doivent être bons. Ils donnent envie d’en manger pour savoir plus de choses. Elle prend un fruit de cet arbre et le mange. Elle en donne à son mari qui est avec elle, et il en mange aussi. Alors leurs yeux s’ouvrent. Maintenant, ils voient qu’ils sont nus. Ils attachent ensemble des feuilles d’arbre, et cela leur sert de pagne. Le soir, un vent léger se met à souffler. Le SEIGNEUR Dieu se promène dans le jardin. L’homme et la femme l’entendent et ils se cachent devant lui, parmi les arbres du jardin. Le SEIGNEUR Dieu appelle l’homme. Il lui demande : « Où es-tu ? » L’homme répond : « Je t’ai entendu dans le jardin. J’ai eu peur parce que je suis nu. Alors, je me suis caché. » Le SEIGNEUR Dieu lui demande : « Qui t’a appris que tu étais nu ? Est-ce que tu as mangé le fruit que je t’avais interdit de manger ? » L’homme répond : « La femme que tu m’as donnée, c’est elle qui m’a donné ce fruit, et j’en ai mangé. » Le SEIGNEUR Dieu dit à la femme : « Qu’est-ce que tu as fait là ? » La femme répond : « Le serpent m’a trompée, et j’ai mangé du fruit. »

Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’ ” “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. But the LORD God called to the man, “Where are you?” He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.” And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?” The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.” Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

Le Serpent était le plus astucieux de tous les animaux des champs que l’Eternel Dieu avait faits. Il demanda à la femme : Vraiment, Dieu vous a dit : « Vous n’avez pas le droit de manger du fruit de tous les arbres du jardin ! » ? La femme répondit au Serpent : Nous mangeons des fruits des arbres du jardin, mais celui qui est au milieu du jardin Dieu a dit de ne pas manger de son fruit et de ne pas y toucher sinon nous mourrons. Alors le Serpent dit à la femme : Mais pas du tout ! Vous ne mourrez pas ! Seulement Dieu sait bien que le jour où vous en mangerez, vos yeux s’ouvriront et vous serez comme Dieu, décidant vous-mêmes ce qui est bien ou mal. Alors la femme vit que le fruit de l’arbre était bon à manger, agréable aux yeux, et qu’il était précieux pour ouvrir l’intelligence. Elle prit donc de son fruit et en mangea. Elle en donna aussi à son mari qui était avec elle, et il en mangea. Alors les yeux de tous deux s’ouvrirent et ils se rendirent compte qu’ils étaient nus. Ils se firent donc des pagnes en cousant ensemble des feuilles de figuier. Au moment de la brise du soir, ils entendirent la voix de l’Eternel Dieu parcourant le jardin. Alors l’homme et sa femme se cachèrent de l’Eternel Dieu parmi les arbres du jardin. Mais l’Eternel Dieu appela l’homme et lui demanda : Où es-tu ? Celui-ci répondit : J’ai entendu ta voix dans le jardin et j’ai eu peur, car je suis nu ; alors je me suis caché. Dieu dit : Qui t’a appris que tu es nu ? Aurais-tu mangé du fruit de l’arbre dont je t’avais défendu de manger ? Adam répondit : La femme que tu as placée auprès de moi, c’est elle qui m’en a donné, et j’en ai mangé. L’Eternel Dieu dit à la femme : Pourquoi as-tu fait cela ? – C’est le Serpent qui m’a trompée, répondit la femme, et j’en ai mangé.
