Apre tout bagay sa yo, Bondye sonde Abraram pou wè sou ki pye li ye avè l. Bondye rele l: — Abraram! Abraram! Abraram reponn: — Men mwen wi! Bondye di l: — Pran Izarak, pitit ou a, sèl pitit gason ou genyen an, pitit ou renmen anpil la. Ale nan peyi Morija, w'a moute sou tèt mòn mwen pral moutre ou la. Lè w'a rive la, w'a touye l. Apre sa, w'a boule l nèt pou mwen. Nan denmen maten, bonè bonè, Abraram leve, li sele bourik li, li pran Izarak ansanm ak de nan domestik li yo. Li fann kèk moso bwa pou l fè dife pou boule vyann bèt l'ap ofri a. Epi li pati nan direksyon kote Bondye te di l la. Sou twa jou, Abraram gade, li wè kote a yon bon ti bout devan l. Abraram di domestik li yo. — Nou menm mesye, rete isit la ak bourik la. Mwen menm ak ti gason an, nou pral jouk lòt bò a, pou nou fè sèvis pou Bondye. Apre sa, n'a tounen vin jwenn nou. Abraram pran bwa pou fè dife a, li bay Izarak pote li. Li menm, li pote bagay pou limen dife a ansanm ak yon kouto nan men l. Yo tou de pati ansanm. Pandan y'ap mache konsa, Izarak di Abraram: — Papa! Abraram reponn: — Wi, pitit mwen! Izarak mande l: — Mwen wè ou gen dife ak bwa. Men, kote mouton pou boule a? Abraram reponn: — Pitit mwen, se sou kont Bondye sa ye. Yo toude t'ap kontinye mache ansanm. Lè yo rive kote Bondye te di l la, Abraram moute yon lotèl, li ranje bwa yo sou li. Li mare Izarak, pitit gason l lan, li mete l sou lotèl la, anwo bwa yo. Apre sa, li lonje men li, li pran kouto a pou li dage ti gason an touye li. Men, zanj Bondye a rete nan syèl la, li rele l: — Abraram! Abraram! Abraram reponn. — Men mwen wi! Zanj lan di li: — Atansyon! Pa fè ti nonm nan mal! Se atòkile mwen wè ou gen krentif pou mwen vre deske ou pa derefize touye sèl pitit gason ou lan pou mwen. Abraram voye je l, li wè yon belye mouton ki te gen kòn li yo makònen nan yon lyann. L ale, li pran mouton an, li touye l, li boule li nèt sou lotèl la pou Bondye nan plas pitit li a. Abraram rele kote sa a: Se sou kont Senyè a sa ye. Se poutèt sa, jouk jòdi a, moun ap repete: Sou mòn Senyè a, tout bagay sou kont li. Zanj Bondye a rete nan syèl la, li pale ak Abraram yon dezyèm fwa, li di l konsa: — Mwen sèmante sou tèt mwen. Se mwen menm Senyè a ki di sa. Mwen gen pou m beni ou anpil poutèt sa ou fè a. Ou pat refize ban mwen pitit ou a, sèl pitit gason ou genyen an. Mwen menm tou, mwen pwomèt pou mwen ba ou anpil anpil pitit. Y'ap tankou zetwal nan syèl, tankou grenn sab bò lanmè. Yo va bat tout lènmi yo. Gremesi tout pitit pitit ou yo, tout nasyon sou latè pral jwenn benediksyon. Wi, yo tout, paske ou te fè sa m te mande ou fè a.

Après cela, Dieu veut voir si Abraham est toujours prêt à lui obéir. Il l’appelle : « Abraham ! » Abraham répond : « Oui, je t’écoute ! » Dieu continue : « Prends ton fils, Isaac, ton seul fils, celui que tu aimes tant. Va dans le pays de Moria. Et là, offre-le en sacrifice sur une montagne que je te montrerai. » Le jour suivant, Abraham se lève tôt le matin. Il coupe du bois pour le feu du sacrifice. Il prépare son âne pour le voyage. Il prend avec lui deux serviteurs et son fils Isaac. Puis il part vers l’endroit que Dieu lui a montré. Le troisième jour, Abraham aperçoit au loin la montagne où il doit aller. Abraham dit à ses serviteurs : « Restez ici avec l’âne. L’enfant et moi, nous allons là-haut pour adorer Dieu. Puis nous reviendrons vers vous. » Abraham prend le bois pour le sacrifice et il le fait porter par son fils Isaac. Lui-même porte le feu et un couteau, et ils s’en vont tous deux ensemble. Isaac dit à Abraham : « Père ! » Abraham répond : « Oui, mon fils, je t’écoute. » Isaac continue : « Nous avons le feu et le bois. Mais où est l’agneau pour le sacrifice ? » Abraham répond : « Dieu s’arrangera pour trouver l’agneau du sacrifice, mon fils. » Tous les deux continuent à marcher ensemble. Quand ils arrivent à l’endroit que Dieu lui a montré, Abraham construit un autel pour le sacrifice. Il met le bois sur l’autel, il attache son fils Isaac et il le met sur l’autel, au-dessus du bois. Puis il prend le couteau pour égorger son fils. Mais l’ange du SEIGNEUR l’appelle du ciel : « Abraham ! Abraham ! » Abraham répond : « Oui, je t’écoute. » Le SEIGNEUR continue : « Ne touche pas à l’enfant, ne lui fais pas de mal ! Maintenant, je sais que tu me respectes. En effet, tu as accepté de me donner ton fils, ton seul fils. » Alors Abraham aperçoit un bélier, accroché par les cornes dans un buisson. Il va le chercher et il l’offre en sacrifice à Dieu, à la place de son fils. Abraham appelle cet endroit : « Le SEIGNEUR s’arrangera. » C’est pourquoi on dit encore aujourd’hui : « Sur la montagne, le SEIGNEUR s’arrangera. » Du ciel, l’ange du SEIGNEUR appelle Abraham une deuxième fois. Il lui dit : « Voici ce que le SEIGNEUR déclare : Parce que tu as fait cela, parce que tu as accepté de me donner ton seul fils, aussi vrai que je suis Dieu, je fais ce serment : je te bénirai. Tes enfants et les enfants de leurs enfants, je les rendrai aussi nombreux que les étoiles du ciel et les grains de sable au bord de la mer. Ils prendront les villes de leurs ennemis. Par eux, je bénirai tous les peuples de la terre parce que tu m’as obéi. »

Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied. Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.” Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about. On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. He said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you.” Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together, Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, “Father?” “Yes, my son?” Abraham replied. “The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together. When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. But the angel of the LORD called out to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied. “Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.” Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham called that place The LORD Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.” The angel of the LORD called to Abraham from heaven a second time and said, “I swear by myself, declares the LORD, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.”

Après ces événements, Dieu mit Abraham à l’épreuve. Il l’appela : Abraham ! Et celui-ci répondit : Me voici. – Prends Isaac, ton fils unique, que tu aimes, lui dit Dieu, et va au pays de Moriya. Là, tu me l’offriras en sacrifice sur l’une des collines, celle que je t’indiquerai. Le lendemain, Abraham se leva de grand matin, sella son âne et emmena deux de ses serviteurs ainsi que son fils Isaac ; il fendit du bois pour l’holocauste, puis il se mit en route en direction de l’endroit que Dieu lui avait indiqué. Après trois jours de marche, Abraham, levant les yeux, aperçut le lieu dans le lointain. Alors il dit à ses serviteurs : Restez ici avec l’âne ; le garçon et moi, nous irons jusque là-bas pour adorer Dieu, puis nous reviendrons vers vous. Abraham chargea le bois de l’holocauste sur son fils Isaac ; il prit lui-même des braises pour le feu et le couteau, puis tous deux s’en allèrent ensemble. Isaac s’adressa à son père Abraham et lui dit : Mon père ! Abraham dit : Qu’y a-t-il, mon fils ? – Voici le feu et le bois, dit-il, mais où est l’agneau pour l’holocauste ? Abraham répondit : Mon fils, Dieu pourvoira lui-même à l’agneau pour l’holocauste. Et ils poursuivirent leur chemin tous deux ensemble. Quand ils furent arrivés à l’endroit que Dieu lui avait indiqué, Abraham construisit un autel et y disposa les bûches. Puis il ligota son fils Isaac et le mit sur l’autel par-dessus le bois. Alors Abraham prit en main le couteau pour immoler son fils. A ce moment-là, l’ange de l’Eternel lui cria du haut du ciel : Abraham ! Abraham ! – Me voici, répondit-il. L’ange reprit : Ne porte pas la main sur le garçon, ne lui fais pas de mal, car maintenant je sais que tu crains Dieu puisque tu ne m’as pas refusé ton fils unique. Alors Abraham aperçut un bélier qui s’était pris les cornes dans un buisson. Il s’en saisit et l’offrit en holocauste à la place de son fils. Abraham appela ce lieu-là : Yahvé-Yireéh (L’Eternel pourvoira). C’est pourquoi on dit aujourd’hui : Sur la montagne de l’Eternel, il sera pourvu. Puis l’ange de l’Eternel appela une seconde fois Abraham du haut du ciel et lui dit : Je le jure par moi-même, parole de l’Eternel, puisque tu as fait cela, puisque tu ne m’as pas refusé ton fils, ton unique, je te comblerai de bénédictions, je multiplierai ta descendance et je la rendrai aussi nombreuse que les étoiles du ciel et que les grains de sable au bord de la mer. Ta descendance dominera sur ses ennemis. Tous les peuples de la terre seront bénis à travers ta descendance parce que tu m’as obéi.
