Li menm, l'a repete l bay farawon an pou farawon an voye pitit Izrayèl yo pati kite peyi a. Mwen menm menm, m'ap fè farawon an fè tèt di. Konsa, m'a fè plis mirak ak plis mèvèy toujou nan peyi Lejip la. Farawon an p'ap koute nou. Lè sa a, m'a frape peyi Lejip la. M'a pini l byen pini. M'a pran pitit Izrayèl yo, sòlda mwen yo, pèp mwen an, m'ap fè yo sòti kite peyi Lejip. Lè m'a frape peyi Lejip, lè m'a fè pitit Izrayèl yo sòti nan mitan yo, moun peyi Lejip yo va konnen se mwen menm menm ki Senyè a vre. Moyiz ak Arawon te fè tou sa Senyè a te ba yo lòd fè. Wi, yo fè tou sa li te di yo fè a. Moyiz te gen katrevenzan, Arawon te gen katreventwazan lè yo te al pale ak farawon an. Senyè a di Moyiz ak Arawon konsa: — Si farawon an mande nou fè yon mirak pou moutre ki moun nou ye, ou menm Moyiz w'a di Arawon pran baton l lan, voye l atè devan farawon an. Baton an va tounen yon koulèv. Moyiz ak Arawon al bò kote farawon an. Yo fè sa Senyè a te ba yo lòd fè a. Arawon voye baton l lan devan farawon an ak devan tout moun farawon yo. Baton an tounen yon koulèv. Men farawon an rele nèg save l yo ak divinò l yo. Yo menm tou, avèk maji yo, yo te rive fè menm bagay la tou. Yo voye baton pa yo atè, baton yo tounen koulèv tou. W'a di farawon an: Senyè a, Bondye ebre yo, te voye m di ou konsa kite pèp li a ale pou yo ka fè yon sèvis pou li nan dezè a. Men, jouk kounyeya ou pa vle koute l. Jòdi a, men sa Senyè a di: mwen pral fè ou konnen se mwen menm ki Senyè a. Mwen pral frape dlo gwo larivyè a avèk baton ki nan men m lan, dlo a pral tounen san. Tout pwason yo pral mouri, dlo a pral santi move, moun peyi Lejip yo p'ap ka bwè dlo ladan l ankò. Senyè a di Moyiz ankò: — Di Arawon pran baton l lan, lonje l sou tout dlo ki nan peyi Lejip la: larivyè, kannal, letan, m'a dlo, wi, sou tout dlo ki genyen. Dlo yo va tounen san. Konsa va gen san sou tout peyi a, menm nan ganmèl yo ak nan kannari yo. Moyiz ak Arawon fè sa Senyè a te ba yo lòd fè a. Arawon leve baton l lan, li frape dlo gwo larivyè a devan farawon an ak devan tout moun farawon yo. Tout dlo gwo larivyè a tounen san. Tout pwason nan larivyè a mouri. Dlo a vin santi move. Moun peyi Lejip yo pat kapab pran dlo ladan l pou yo bwè ankò. Te gen san toupatou nan peyi a. Men, majisyen peyi Lejip yo te rive fè menm bagay la tou avèk maji yo. Farawon an menm t'ap fè tèt di pi rèd. Li pa koute Moyiz ak Arawon, tankou Senyè a te di a. Farawon an vire do ba yo, l'al lakay li tankou si anyen pat rive. Moun peyi Lejip yo pran fouye twou sou bò gwo larivyè a pou yo te ka jwenn dlo pwòp pou yo bwè, paske yo pat kapab bwè dlo gwo larivyè a. Apre Senyè a te fin frape gwo larivyè a, li kite sèt jou pase.

Alors le SEIGNEUR lui dit : « Je t’établis auprès de lui comme un dieu , et ton frère Aaron sera ton porte-parole. Tu diras à ton frère tout ce que je te commanderai. Ensuite, c’est lui qui parlera au roi d’Égypte. Il lui demandera de laisser partir d’Égypte les Israélites. Mais je fermerai le cœur du roi. Je ferai beaucoup de choses extraordinaires et étonnantes dans son pays. Pourtant, le roi ne vous écoutera pas. Alors je ferai peser ma puissance sur l’Égypte. Et grâce à mon autorité, je ferai sortir de ce pays, et en bon ordre, mon peuple, les Israélites. Je montrerai ma force à l’Égypte pour faire sortir les Israélites de ce pays. Les Égyptiens sauront ainsi que le SEIGNEUR, c’est moi. » Moïse et Aaron font exactement ce que le SEIGNEUR leur a commandé. Moïse a 80 ans et Aaron a 83 ans quand ils vont parler au roi d’Égypte. Le SEIGNEUR dit à Moïse et à Aaron : « Si le roi d’Égypte vous demande de faire une action extraordinaire, toi, Moïse, tu diras à Aaron de prendre son bâton. Qu’il le jette par terre devant le roi ! Le bâton deviendra alors un serpent. » Moïse et Aaron vont chez le roi d’Égypte et ils font ce que le SEIGNEUR a commandé. Aaron jette son bâton par terre devant le roi et devant ceux qui l’entourent, et le bâton devient un serpent. De son côté, le roi fait venir les sages et les sorciers d’Égypte, et ils font la même chose grâce à leur magie. Chacun d’eux jette son bâton par terre, et les bâtons deviennent des serpents. Mais celui d’Aaron avale leurs bâtons. Pourtant, le cœur du roi d’Égypte reste fermé, comme le SEIGNEUR l’a annoncé. Il n’écoute pas Moïse et Aaron. Le SEIGNEUR dit à Moïse : « Le roi d’Égypte ne veut rien entendre, il refuse de laisser partir les Israélites. Va donc le trouver le matin, au moment où il descend près de l’eau. Attends-le au bord du Nil. Prends à la main le bâton qui est devenu un serpent. Et dis au roi : “Le SEIGNEUR, le Dieu des Hébreux, m’a envoyé te dire : Laisse partir mon peuple pour qu’il me serve au désert. Mais jusqu’ici, tu n’as pas écouté. C’est pourquoi le SEIGNEUR le dit : cette fois-ci tu reconnaîtras qui il est. Je vais frapper l’eau du Nil avec le bâton que j’ai dans la main, et elle va devenir du sang. Les poissons vont mourir, le fleuve sera empoisonné et les Égyptiens ne pourront plus boire son eau.” » Le SEIGNEUR dit encore à Moïse : « Commande à Aaron de prendre son bâton. Qu’il tende le bras en direction de tous les cours d’eau d’Égypte, vers les rivières, les canaux, et même vers les lacs. Alors cette eau deviendra du sang. Ainsi, il y aura du sang dans tout le pays, jusque dans les récipients en bois ou en pierre. » Moïse et Aaron font ce que le SEIGNEUR a commandé. Aaron lève son bâton et il frappe l’eau du Nil sous les yeux du roi d’Égypte et des gens qui l’entourent. Toute l’eau du fleuve devient du sang. Les poissons meurent, le fleuve sent très mauvais, et les Égyptiens ne peuvent plus boire son eau. Il y a du sang dans tout le pays. Or, les magiciens égyptiens font la même chose grâce à leur magie, et le cœur du roi reste fermé. Il n’écoute pas la demande de Moïse et d’Aaron, comme le SEIGNEUR l’a annoncé. Le roi d’Égypte leur tourne le dos et il rentre chez lui sans prendre cette affaire au sérieux. Tous les Égyptiens se mettent à creuser des trous au bord du Nil, pour avoir de l’eau bonne à boire. En effet, ils ne peuvent pas boire l’eau du fleuve. Sept jours passent après que le SEIGNEUR a frappé le Nil de ce malheur.

Then the LORD said to Moses, “See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron will be your prophet. You are to say everything I command you, and your brother Aaron is to tell Pharaoh to let the Israelites go out of his country. But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and though I multiply my signs and wonders in Egypt, he will not listen to you. Then I will lay my hand on Egypt and with mighty acts of judgment I will bring out my divisions, my people the Israelites. And the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring the Israelites out of it.” Moses and Aaron did just as the LORD commanded them. Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three when they spoke to Pharaoh. The LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “When Pharaoh says to you, ‘Perform a miracle,’ then say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh,’ and it will become a snake.” So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did just as the LORD commanded. Aaron threw his staff down in front of Pharaoh and his officials, and it became a snake. Pharaoh then summoned wise men and sorcerers, and the Egyptian magicians also did the same things by their secret arts: Each one threw down his staff and it became a snake. But Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs. Yet Pharaoh’s heart became hard and he would not listen to them, just as the LORD had said. Then the LORD said to Moses, “Pharaoh’s heart is unyielding; he refuses to let the people go. Go to Pharaoh in the morning as he goes out to the river. Confront him on the bank of the Nile, and take in your hand the staff that was changed into a snake. Then say to him, ‘The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, has sent me to say to you: Let my people go, so that they may worship me in the wilderness. But until now you have not listened. This is what the LORD says: By this you will know that I am the LORD: With the staff that is in my hand I will strike the water of the Nile, and it will be changed into blood. The fish in the Nile will die, and the river will stink; the Egyptians will not be able to drink its water.’ ” The LORD said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt—over the streams and canals, over the ponds and all the reservoirs—and they will turn to blood.’ Blood will be everywhere in Egypt, even in vessels of wood and stone.” Moses and Aaron did just as the LORD had commanded. He raised his staff in the presence of Pharaoh and his officials and struck the water of the Nile, and all the water was changed into blood. The fish in the Nile died, and the river smelled so bad that the Egyptians could not drink its water. Blood was everywhere in Egypt. But the Egyptian magicians did the same things by their secret arts, and Pharaoh’s heart became hard; he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said. Instead, he turned and went into his palace, and did not take even this to heart. And all the Egyptians dug along the Nile to get drinking water, because they could not drink the water of the river. Seven days passed after the LORD struck the Nile.

L’Eternel dit à Moïse : Regarde ! Je te fais Dieu pour le pharaon, et ton frère Aaron te servira de prophète. Toi, tu diras tout ce que je t’ordonnerai, et ton frère Aaron le répétera au pharaon pour qu’il laisse partir les Israélites de son pays. Et moi, je rendrai le pharaon inflexible et je multiplierai les signes miraculeux et les prodiges en Egypte, mais il ne vous écoutera pas. Alors j’interviendrai en Egypte et j’en ferai sortir mon peuple, les Israélites, comme une armée en bon ordre, en exerçant de terribles jugements. Les Egyptiens sauront ainsi que je suis l’Eternel, quand j’interviendrai en Egypte pour en faire sortir les Israélites. Moïse et Aaron firent exactement tout ce que l’Eternel leur avait commandé. Moïse avait quatre-vingts ans et Aaron quatre-vingt-trois lorsqu’ils allèrent parler au pharaon. L’Eternel dit à Moïse et Aaron : Si le pharaon vous demande de faire un miracle, toi, Moïse, tu diras à Aaron : « Prends ton bâton et jette-le devant le pharaon », et il se transformera en serpent ! Moïse et Aaron se rendirent chez le pharaon et agirent comme l’Eternel le leur avait ordonné. Aaron jeta son bâton devant le pharaon et ses hauts fonctionnaires et celui-ci se transforma en serpent. Alors le pharaon fit convoquer ses sages et ses magiciens, et les enchanteurs d’Egypte accomplirent le même miracle par leurs sortilèges : chacun d’eux jeta son bâton à terre qui se transforma en serpent ; cependant le bâton d’Aaron avala les leurs. Malgré cela, le pharaon, le cœur obstiné, refusa de les écouter, comme l’Eternel l’avait dit. L’Eternel dit à Moïse : Le pharaon est trop entêté pour laisser partir le peuple. Va le trouver demain matin à l’heure où il sortira pour aller au bord de l’eau. Tu te tiendras sur son passage sur la rive du Nil. Prends dans ta main le bâton qui a été changé en serpent, et tu lui diras : « L’Eternel, le Dieu des Hébreux, m’a envoyé vers toi pour te dire : Laisse aller mon peuple pour qu’il me rende un culte dans le désert. Mais jusqu’à présent, tu as fait la sourde oreille. C’est pourquoi l’Eternel te déclare : Voici comment tu sauras que je suis l’Eternel : Avec le bâton que j’ai à la main, je vais frapper les eaux du Nil et elles se changeront en sang. Les poissons qui vivent dans le fleuve périront et le Nil deviendra si infect que les Egyptiens ne pourront plus en boire l’eau. » L’Eternel dit encore à Moïse : Ordonne à Aaron de prendre son bâton et d’étendre sa main en direction de tous les cours d’eau de l’Egypte : ses rivières, ses canaux, ses étangs et tous ses réservoirs, et leur eau se changera en sang, il y aura du sang dans tout le pays d’Egypte jusque dans les récipients de bois ou de pierre. Moïse et Aaron exécutèrent les ordres de l’Eternel. Aaron leva le bâton et frappa l’eau du Nil sous les yeux du pharaon et de ses hauts fonctionnaires, et toute l’eau du fleuve fut changée en sang. Les poissons périrent et le fleuve devint si infect que les Egyptiens ne purent plus en boire l’eau. Il y avait du sang dans tout le pays. Mais les magiciens égyptiens en firent autant par leurs sortilèges. Le pharaon s’obstina dans son cœur et ne céda pas, comme l’Eternel l’avait dit. Il leur tourna le dos et rentra dans son palais sans prendre la chose à cœur. Tous les Egyptiens creusèrent le sol aux alentours du Nil pour trouver de l’eau potable puisqu’ils ne pouvaient plus boire l’eau du fleuve. Sept jours s’écoulèrent après que l’Eternel eut frappé le fleuve.
