Easter With the King

DAY 2 OF 5

Royal Banquets

Jesus' Royal Banquet - Luke 22:7-23

Theme Verse: Luke 22:16

Preparations for royal banquets are a display of meticulous planning and grandeur. For example, a state banquet for royalty can begin over a year in advance, with the final touches—such as setting the tables and preparing the meals—starting days before the guest's arrival. Such events follow strict protocols, including the exchanging of gifts, multi-course meals, and speeches that mark the occasion with dignity and honor.

Similarly, the King of Kings, Jesus Christ, prepared a royal banquet during the week that changed the world forever—His final days before His death and resurrection. This was no ordinary banquet; it marked the culmination of God’s plan to save humanity. A special location was chosen, the meal prepared, and everything was set for this significant moment. During His speech at this banquet, Jesus spoke of a new covenant, one sealed through the shedding of His blood.

This event, often referred to as “The Last Supper,” was a pivotal moment in history. Unlike the extensive planning for earthly royal banquets, the preparations for this moment were divine and eternal, tracing back to the first Passover in Egypt over 1,000 years earlier. That first Passover table foreshadowed this new covenant, where no longer would priests or animal sacrifices be necessary to approach the King of Kings. Through Jesus, a new way was established, one that would transform the world forever!

Questions:

1. Can you remember the details of an elaborate dinner you were invited to?

2. What benefits are there in a large, formal banquet in honor of someone important?

3. In Revelation 19:9 is another banquet, "The Wedding Supper of the Lamb," arranged in celebration of Jesus Christ and his bride, the Church. How does this compare and contrast to the Last Supper?

About this Plan

Easter With the King

This 5-day Easter Bible reading plan by Kristi Krauss invites you to celebrate Jesus Christ, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Throughout history, royalty has been honored with crowns and grand ceremonies, yet no ruler compares to Jesus, whose eternal reign brings true peace, hope, and salvation. Over 2,000 years ago, He bore a crown of thorns, later exchanged for a crown of glory. This Easter, let us reflect on His sacrifice, rejoice in His resurrection, and give glory to our eternal King!
