From Distraction to Devotion: Finding Your Way Back to God

DAY 7 OF 7

Finding Your Way Back To God

“Return to me, and I will return to you.” - Malachi 3:7

As we come to the end of this devotional journey, it’s time to focus on the steps we can take to return to God and reignite our relationship with Him. Throughout the past days, we’ve identified common distractions, like an inconsistent prayer life, busyness, loss of passion for the things of God, and compromised values. But the good news is that God is always ready to welcome us back with Open Arms. The journey to return to God may not always be easy, but it is always possible. Today, we’ll explore practical ways to rebuild our relationship and find our way back to Him.

1. Pray, Acknowledge, Recommit, Forgiven - The first step in returning to God is Repentance. Acknowledge the ways you have drifted from Him and confess those areas where you’ve allowed distractions to pull you away. Repentance is an act of turning away from sin and turning back to God. It’s a posture of humility, recognizing that God is faithful to forgive and restore. First John 1:9 says ”If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." It is our job to restore the foundation of our relationship with God through prayer and recommit our hearts and lives to Him.

2. Walk Away and Eliminate Distractions - We have to identify the distractions and influences that have been pulling us away from God and taking up too much space in our lives. Are there things you need to say “no” to in order to make room for God? Whether it’s limiting screen time, setting aside unneeded commitments, or simply unplugging for a season, take intentional steps to clear away distractions and make space for God to move in your life.

3. Set Time/Make Space - Rebuilding your relationship with God requires intentional time and space. Set aside specific time in your day for prayer or Bible reading. Create a quiet place free of distractions where you can connect deeply with God. This time is precious—treat it with the priority it deserves.

4. Meditate on His Word - God’s Word is a Powerful Tool for spiritual renewal. Meditate on Scripture daily, allow it to shape your thoughts, and guide your actions. When we allow God’s Word to penetrate our hearts, it renews our thinking and helps us align with His Will. Whether it’s memorizing verses or reflecting on passages during quiet time, let God’s Word be a central part of your journey back to Him.

5. Worship - God is calling us back to the heart of worship where it’s all about Him. Worship is not just singing songs but a lifestyle of reverence and devotion. Let your heart, actions, and attitudes reflect your gratitude toward God. Worship brings us into His Presence, helps eliminate distractions, and allows us to express our love and awe of Him. Whether through music, prayer, or acts of service, worship is a powerful way to reconnect and honor God.

God is always ready to restore the broken relationship between Himself and His people. No matter how far we may have wandered, His Arms are open, waiting for us to come back and experience His Love and Grace. Remember, it is not about religion, it's about relationship. Make the first step and return to Him.

Prayer:

Father, I thank You for Your Endless Love and Grace. I acknowledge that I have drifted away and allowed distractions to pull me from You. Today, I choose to return to You with a humble heart. Help me to make You the center of my life again and to seek You always. Amen.
