From Distraction to Devotion: Finding Your Way Back to Godનમૂનો
Sign #3: Loss of Interest In The Things of God
"Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first." - Revelation 2:4
One of the most telling signs that we’ve drifted away from God is a loss of interest in the things of God. This can happen gradually, but before we know it, we might find that reading our Bible, attending church, praying, or engaging in worship no longer excites us the way it once did. We might even feel indifferent or disconnected from our spiritual life altogether. This loss of passion for the things of God is often a result of distractions, busyness, or spiritual complacency.
In Revelation 2:4, Jesus speaks to the church in Ephesus and says, “You have forsaken the love you had at first.” The church had once been passionate about God and His Work, but over time, they had allowed their devotion to Him to decline. Jesus calls them—and us—to return to the love we once had for Him.
This is a powerful reminder that a loss of interest in God often begins in the heart and with a loss of passion for Him. Just as in any relationship, when we stop prioritizing and nurturing our connection with God, our love for Him begins to fade. The initial fire that burned within us can grow cold, and we may find ourselves simply going through the motions instead of passionately pursuing God.
So, how do we return to the love we once had for God? Reflect on the early days of our faith and the things that ignited our love for God. Remember the time you first encountered God’s Love. Think about the joy, excitement, and awe you felt when you first learned about His Grace and Forgiveness. Revelation 2:5 says, “Consider how far you have fallen. Repent and do the things you did at first.” Reflect on what initially ignited your passion for God—whether it was a particular moment of prayer, a sermon, or a personal experience with God. Revisit those memories and allow them to reignite your heart.
Prayer:
Lord, I confess that my heart has sometimes grown cold and my love for You has declined. Thank You for Your Grace and for calling me back to You. Help me to remember the passion I once had for You and to return to the things that fueled my faith. Revive my love for You, Lord, and guide me to spend time with You again, seeking Your Presence and Your Will. Holy Spirit, help me to rekindle the fire of my first love for Christ. Amen.
