Lessons ~ The Transfiguration

DAY 6 OF 11

Live for the Eternal and Not the Temporal

Peter wanted to make a tabernacle for Jesus, Moses and Elijah at the mount of transfiguration. Incidentally, at the purported site today, three structures have been erected.

This is how we are as human beings, focused on the temporal. God wants us to live by faith, for without faith we cannot have a relationship with Him (Hebrews 11:6). Faith is opposite to sight (II Corinthians 5:7). If we consider how the majority of us operate, we will see that we are sight-based and not faith-based. How then can we please God?

We need God’s grace to train ourselves to live, keeping our eyes on the eternal and not on the temporal (II Corinthians 4:18). The substance of our life—our hope—ought to be that which is eternal (Hebrews 11:1)

Abraham demonstrated this life of faith. Although he lived in the land of promise his hope was not in the land but God. He saw the eternal city whose builder and maker is God. God and the eternal was the substance of Abraham’s hope (Hebrews 11:9-10).

We need a glimpse of the eternal city full of God’s glory (Revelation 21:10-11) because that is the substance of our hope (Revelation 21:22-23).

Thought to ponder

Are you rested as Abraham was or are you fretting through life’s journey?
