DAY TEN – Thursday, September 15
D-GROUPS
Read: Matthew 4:18-22
Fusion Bible’s Strategy: The greater Texoma area consists of over 400,000 people. To see our vision become a reality will require the power of God being lived out in the lives of our people. We will intentionally do our part to reach 400,000 people by:
• Establishing and deploying intentional and reproducible D-Groups that equip disciples and are missional to the community around them.
Everyone has a hunger for God, but our tastes (needs) are messed up. We’ve been raised on junk food, so what we ask for is often wrong or twisted. The art of spiritual leadership is not to tell people that they can’t have what they want, but to give them something better than what they think they want. You try to shift the dimensions of their lives slowly toward what God wants.
Spiritual direction - friendship or companionship which enables another person to recognize and respond to God in their lives in detail, not in generalities. It takes a lot of time. You can’t do it in a hurry. It requires extensive knowledge of your people. You do it over a number of years, not days.
What can we learn from Jesus about discipleship?
• Jesus was an intentional leader.

• Jesus did His disciple-making in a relational environment.

• Jesus followed a process that can be learned and repeated.

• An intentional leader + a relational environment + a reproducible process = an infinite number of disciples.

Jim Putman has noted five stages of a disciple’s growth:
• Spiritually dead (unbelief)

• Spiritual infant (ignorance)

• Spiritual child (self-centeredness)

20
• Spiritual young adult (service, God- centeredness, other-centeredness)

• Spiritual parent (intentionality, reproducibility, strategy)

How do we move disciples forward in their spiritual maturity?
• Spiritually dead: share the gospel

• Spiritual infant: share your life, share new truth, share new habits

• Spiritual child: connect to God, connect to a small group, connect to God’s purpose

• Spiritual young adult: equip for ministry, provide ministry opportunities, release to do ministry

• Spiritual parent: explain discipleship process, release to disciple another with your help, release to disciple alone

Pray:Father, I truly want to grow. Please help me to overcome my self-constructing obstacles. You say that I need others to help me grow, so I want to believe You and act.
