Study Questions
OPENING:
1) Who has had the biggest impact on you coming to faith in Christ, or on growing as a disciple? What did they do or say that made a difference in your life?
2) What need did you have or what was missing in your life before you came to faith in Christ, that knowing Christ has made a difference in your life?
GOING DEEPER:
Read Titus 3:1-11
3) What instructions does Paul give Titus and the church in verses 1-2? Why do you think Paul stresses these instructions to the church? What about human nature makes such reminders necessary (v. 3)?
4) In what ways do people in our community or culture struggle with the characteristics that Paul mentions in verse 3? What are the biggest challenges from that list that people struggle with today?
5) What do verses 4-7 say about God’s character? His work in us?
6) How does a true understanding of God’s work and grace in verses 4-7 promote Gratitude? Humility? A life of service? Motivate us to share the “good news” with others? How have you seen this happen in your life?
7) According to Paul if the things of verses 4-7 are stressed, what should believers be doing (verse 8)? Who benefits and in what ways?
8) What is going on with the people in verses 9-11? How do Paul’s instructions reflect both “tough love” and uncompromising righteousness? What similar situations are occurring in today’s church?
APPLYING
9) In what ways are you investing in doing good as a result of your faith? Is there a way that the Lord is calling you to do good in a specific context moving forward?
10) Can you share your story of faith (your “good news” story) in 250 words or less?
a. How where you before Christ? (verse 3)
b. How you came to faith in Christ? (verses 4-7)
c. What has Christ done and what is He doing in your life? (verses 7-8)
