1. What is Mammon?

Mammon comes from the old Aramaic word that means “riches.”

Mammon was the ancient Syrian god—the god of wealth or the god of riches.

Babel means “confused.” Babylon means “sown in confusion.”
The people were confused as to where they stood in relationship with the One True God.

They wanted to make a name for themselves. They wanted to reach the heavens on their own merit...and in their own power.

It was a prideful, arrogant spirit that did not need God.

And this spirit of mammon...this false god tries to tell us the same thing: “You don’t need God. Trust in riches.”

Mammon tries to replace God with things...with money and materialism. It tells you to put your trust in those things.

All money has a spirit on it...it either has the Spirit of God on it, or it has the spirit of mammon on it.

This is why your money needs to be redeemed.

“Mammon promises us those things that only God can give—security, significance, identity, independence, power, and freedom. Mammon tells us that it can insulate us from life’s problems and that money is the answer to every situation.”
-Pastor Jimmy Evans

The anti-Christ will attempt to dominate people through the use of economics...you will not be able to buy or sell unless you serve him.

Think of it the anti-Christ’s rule will not be through the threat of nuclear war. His rule will be through the threat of not being able to buy or sell.

“Mammon is nothing more than the system of this fallen world that stands in sharp opposition to God and His ways. Mammon says to buy and sell; God says to sow and reap. Mammon says to cheat and steal; God says to give and receive. But more than anything, mammon wants to rule.”
-Pastor Robert Morris

2. Is money evil?

Money is neutral—neither good nor bad.

It’s the love of money-the worship, the service of money that is evil.

Money is a tool...it can be used for good or bad.

It can be used for eternal purposes or temporal purposes.

“Money can be used for either righteous or unrighteous purposes. It can be used for temporal or eternal purposes. Money that has been submitted to God is blessed. And that’s why blessed money multiplies and is not consumed by the devourer. It’s money that can be used for good and to bless others.”
-Pastor Robert Morris

We are to be good stewards of our money, and part of being a good steward is investing in what is eternal. And what is eternal? People!

Use your money to invest in people...helping people, loving people, feeding people, caring for people, and above all sharing the Gospel with people.

Use money for righteous purposes...storing treasures in Heaven.

3. What should I do with money?

Be faithful with the little that you do have...be a good steward. Bring your tithe, then invest in Kingdom purposes and watch how a God blesses and brings increase into your lives.

If we belong to God, then it’s His money, not ours.

“This is why Jesus tells me I need to be faithful with what is someone else’s. It’s not mine; it’s His. And each new day brings a test of my stewardship.”
-Pastor Robert Morris

When we give God blesses. And the greatest blessing of all is being able to see God’s Kingdom enlarge, to see ministries advance, to see churches grow, and to see broken people become whole—all because of our obedience in bringing the tithe and giving in offerings over and above the tithe.
