Today's Sermon: "I Want to Go to Church".
Rev 2:1-7

1 For the angel of the church in Ephesus write these things: “The one holding the 7 stars in his right hand, the one walking in the middle of the 7 golden lampstands says, 2 ‘I know your deeds, both your troubles and your perseverance and that you are not able to exalt evils; you both tested those speaking of themselves as apostles and found them false; 3 also, you have perseverance and you exalted my name and you have not been troubled (by it). 4 But I have against you this: Your first love you have left. 5 Therefore, remember from where you fell and repent and do those first deeds; but, if not, I will come to you and I will move your lampstand from its place—unless you repent. 6 But you have this, that you hate the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I myself also hate.’ 7 The one having ears, let him hear. What does the Spirit say to the churches? ‘To the one overcoming I will give to him to eat from the Tree of Life, which is in the Paradise of God.’”

Rev 1:1-2, 19

1:1 A revelation of Jesus, The Anointed One, which God gave to him to show to his servants what must occur with quickness. And he symbolized it, after he sent (it) through his angel, to his servant John, 2 who testified (about) the word of God and the testimony of Jesus, The Anointed One, whom he saw.
19 “Write, therefore, what you have seen, both the things which are, and the things that will happen after these things.
Some Questions
• Who were the Nicolaitans?
• What was the “first love”?
• What is the “Tree of Life”?
• Where is the “Tree of Life”?
• How does one eat from the “Tree of Life”?
• What and where is the Paradise of God?
The Nicolaitans
• A clique that originated within the Ephesian congregation whose false teachings, perhaps initiated by Nicolaus of Antioch (Acts 6:5)
• They were troubling the church and attempting to pass themselves off as apostles in the church (Rev 2:2).
• Concerning Pergamum, they are described as also being associated with Balaam (2:14) and, as such, engaging in sexual immorality and eating meat sacrificed to idol gods.
• These same two charges are leveled against those in Thyatira, those connected with Jezebel (2:20), and such deeds are referred to as having learned “the deep things of Satan” (2:24).
Rev 22:2 and 21:2

22:2 In the middle of its (i.e. the city’s) street and on both sides of the river also there was the Tree of Life bearing twelve fruits according to each month, giving of its fruit and the leaves of the Tree (were) for the healing of the nations.

21:2 And the holy city, the New Jerusalem, I saw coming down from the heavens from God, prepared as the adorned Bride for her husband.
