1 Peter 5:8 (KJV)
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

1. The devil is looking for a fresh kill.

a. how does he choose who to devour

b. (contextually) goo to verse 7

1 Peter 5:7 (KJV)
7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

care- things that stress you out, worries and concerns

a. unmet needs

2. What are the signs that he has chosen to devour you?

Psalm 69:9 (MSG)
9 I love you more than I can say. Because I'm madly in love with you, They blame me for everything they dislike about you.
#1. You have no desire for the things of God.

3. Spiritual attacks are designed to turn you away from what God wants to do in your life.

4. That is why the first warning sign of attack is a loss of spiritual desire.

a. lack of church attendance

b. no reading, studying God’s Word

Proverbs 20:13 (MSG)
13 Don't be too fond of sleep; you'll end up in the poorhouse. Wake up and get up; then there'll be food on the table.

#2. Mental and physical fatigue.

5. The second warning sign is fatigue.

6. Fatigue walks in when faith walks out.

7. Listening to wrong thoughts affects our spirits.

a. they create mental fatigue

b. that negativity drains our physical bodies
8. Our greatest attacks usually happen:

a. right before a great promotion

b. or just after a great victory

Genesis 26:1 (MSG)
1 There was a famine in the land, as bad as the famine during the time of Abraham. And Isaac went down to Abimelech, king of the Philistines, in Gerar.

#3. A lack of attack.

9. A lack of attack is where all of your resources dry up at the same time.

10. This is to get you to take your eyes off of God and put your eyes on money.

11. If the devil can get you to:

a.worry instead of worshipping

b. you will start making decisions based

- on feelings instead of the anointing

- things you can control instead of trusting God
Luke 22:31 (MSG)
31 "Simon, stay on your toes. Satan has tried his best to separate all of you from me, like chaff from wheat.

12. There are two times in your life when you are ripe for temptation:

1) when you have nothing

2) and when you have everything

Genesis 26:12 (NLT)
12 When Isaac planted his crops that year, he harvested a hundred times more grain than he planted, for the LORD blessed him.

13. Isaac planted during a famine.

a. most people hold on with a death grip

14. Stay close to God during the good times and the bad.

a. not just when He’s blessing you




Matthew 26:40 (KJV)
40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?

15. They fell asleep...a sign of a spiritual attack.

a. when Jesus needed them the most

41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

16. The weak flesh syndrome leads to...

#4. Feeling overwhelmed and helpless.

Proverbs 13:12-13 (MSG)
12 Unrelenting disappointment leaves you heartsick, but a sudden good break can turn life around. 13 Ignore the Word and suffer; honor God's commands and grow rich.

17. Feelings of being overwhelmed to lead to hopelessness.



18. If the enemy can get you to lose hope;

a. then he can get you to stop living by faith

b. no faith, no rewards

c. this leads to

#5. Prayer turns to complaining and fault finding.

1 Corinthians 13:11 (NLT)
11 When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things.

19. This indicates what part f you is the strongest.

a. prayer/confessing God’s Word = spiritual strength

b. complaining and blaming = your flesh is stronger

Ephesians 4:22 (MSG)
22 Since, then, we do not have the excuse of ignorance, everything—and I do mean everything—connected with that old way of life has to go. It's rotten through and through. Get rid of it! And then take on an entirely new way of life—a God-fashioned life,

#6. You go back to your old ways.

20. Old habits and lifestyles resurface.

21. Your back to fussing and cussing, drinking, smoking...

a. you're in self-preservation mode

Iniquity -those old habits that:

a. your soul wants to fall back on

b. when things aren't going your way

#7. You pulling away from Godly relationships.

22. The devil gains the victory.

23. No :

a. church attendance b. fellowship

c. contact with friends d. seeking help




24. This is where you are:

a. stumbling around the battleground

b. and the enemy has a target on your head

James 4:6 (MSG)
6 And what he gives in love is far better than anything else you'll find. It's common knowledge that "God goes against the willful proud; God gives grace to the willing humble."

25. You become to pride full to seek help.

James 4:7 (MSG)
7 So let God work his will in you. Yell a loud no to the Devil and watch him scamper.

26. Devil, no more!

3 John 1:2 (NLT)
2 Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit.

27. The ‘Do Nots’ for a safe spiritual journey.


Philippians 4:13 (MSG)
13 Whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the One who makes me who I am.

#1. Do not forget who made you.

28. Believe it or not, God created you with storms in mind.

29. He has :

a. equipped you to face anything satan throws your way

b. and you are going to make it through in Him

1 Thessalonians 5:17 (NLT)
Never stop praying.

#2. Do not give up on prayer.

30. It’s your personal connection to God’s throne room.

Matthew 16:18 (NLT)
18 Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.


#3. Do not forsake the place of power.

31. Your church is a place of power.

a. stay plugged in

#4. Do not abandon people.

32. It is good to be around people who have:

a.more experience and/or training and have been where you are at

b. and can give wise counsel, mentorship or spiritual parenting

c. but we convince ourselves it won’t do any good

19 Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck: 20 Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.

33. These two guys were under a spiritual attack.


#5. Do not disconnect from pastoral protection

34. They refused to listen to the spiritual authority assigned to their life.

35. So Paul removed his spiritual covering off of these two guys.

a. he allowed them to wander off

36. Most people ignore or avoid pastoral care.

a. and end up creating and prolonging their own misery

37. Have a great journey of faith.
