The Importance of Finishing Well
· The Christian life is metaphorically likened to competing in a running race (Hebrews 12:1; Acts 20:24; 2 Timothy 4:6-7)
· The Christian life is a race that involves many obstacles and dangers
· It’s a race of endurance (Isaiah 40:31)
· The reward is not to the swift or the fast, but to the faithful who run and finish well (Philippians 3:13-14)
David’s Life had both Success and Failure
· A man after God’s own heart (1Samuel 13:14)
· He was a man of great faith and confidence in the Lord
· He was a mighty warrior and wise king
· He failed as a husband and father
· He failed with Bathsheba
· He failed by trusting in his own power and ability
· David’s life story is typical of most of us (Luke 9:23)
· There is a pathway to finishing well: Repentance, Confession, Reconciliation, Forgiveness, Obedience
David Finishes Well
· David followed after the Lord through it all
· David bestows vision, purpose, approval and leadership upon Solomon
· David purposefully engaged with Solomon
· David prayed for his son Solomon
· David died with his affairs in order
· David finished well – What are you doing today in order to finish well?
