We find ourselves resisting the God we trust
The futility of resisting God
The futility of resisting God
Jews all over the world paid a Temple Tax
Caiaphas had power, influence and authority
Caiaphas had power, influence and authority
Jesus’ problem for Caiaphas: The crowds
The crowds were a threat to Rome and the established Jewish system
The crowds were a threat to Rome and the established Jewish system
Jesus’ problem for Caiaphas: Jesus spoke with authority
Jesus’ problem for Caiaphas: Jesus critical of the religious leaders
Jesus’ problem for Caiaphas: Jesus critical of the religious leaders
Final problem for Caiaphas: Not what Jesus said but what he did
Strategy: Ask Jesus trick questions to discredit him with the people
To resist Jesus is to resist God
Following Jesus will cost you something
Following Jesus will cost you something
As they resisted Jesus, they facilitated the Will of God
Our life will reflect the truth and the glory of God
"Preserve at all cost”
Whatever is at the center of our life is in place of God
Whatever is in place of God is diminishing in value and significance
The pressure to preserve will drive us to self-destructive behavior that hurts us and others
Saying “yes" to God will cost something but saying “no" will cost more
What have you put in the place of Jesus?
