God's Response to Sin:

Big Idea:
At the cross Jesus took God's wrath upon himself and satisfied his demand for justice.

Justice:
Rendering to an individual the due consequences of their actions.

“Mercy detached from justice grows unmerciful. That is the important paradox. As there are plants which will flourish only in mountain soil, so it appears that Mercy will flower only when it grows in the crannies of the rock of justice.”

Questions:
1. Why couldn't God just forgive?
2. Is the cross a form of "cosmic child abuse"?

1. God's wrath was directed at me; Jesus took it for me.
2. God's just judgment was directed at me; Jesus took it for me.
