Three observations:

1) When facing a mountain, our first reaction is to forget who sent us.

a. The 12 spies went and all but 2 forgot why they had gone.

b. The first few words of their testimony upon return to Moses reveals evidence of their hearts.

i. Numbers 13:27, “ We went into the land which you sent us…”

c. Verse 1&2 say that God sent them, not Moses.

2) When facing a mountain, we often forget the process.

a. God gave the promise, but there was still a purpose and a plan.

b. God’s people were called to repossess the land.

i. The spies went through Hebron where The Patriarchs of Israel were buried.

ii. This land was once deeded to Abraham.

3) When facing a mountain, we often operate out of weakness and not strength.
a. Numbers 14:40-45

i. The people decided to possess the land out of their own strength.

ii. They went out against the Canaanites without Moses or the blessing of God.

b. Israel made a terrible decision to possess the land in their own weakness instead of by the hand of God.
