Hebrews 10:22-25

Four Reasons why we need to go to Church.

#1 - We Need to Worship God TOGETHER (22)
Verse 22 begins by saying, “let US draw near”
· This entire paragraph is plural in its structure
· Count the number of times the words “us” and “we” are used. By my count, we have 7 times where “us” and “we” are used and one time where the writer of Hebrews says: exhorting “one another.”
· It is a call for ALL of us who name the name of Christ to come near to God, to worship Him. (All of us)

This was the nature and character of the New Testament church
· Acts 2:44All the believers were together and had everything in common, 46Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,
This was the habit of O.T. Believers as well
· Exodus 12:16, (Establishment of the Passover) 'On the firstday you shall have a holyassembly, and another holyassembly on the seventhday ; nowork at all shall be done on them, exceptwhat must be eaten by everyperson, that alone may be prepared by you. (This speaks of the Importance of a gathering)
· Neh 8:1 (When Ezra read the Law) The people were described as gathering as ONE

#2 - We Need to Walk TOGETHER (23)
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful;

It says “Let US hold fast”
· We are to hold fast to our confession of hope
What is our confession of hope?
· Jesus is Lord
· Jesus saves sinners

We are to do this “without wavering”

This is “OUR Hope”

#3 - We Need to Work TOGETHER (24)
“and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds,”

“Consider”
#1 – We should be thinking about how to encourage someone this week to do things for God

“Let US…stir up love and good works”
#2 – We should be a source of motivation in the lives of fellow church members
· Lit: “irritate”
This is about bringing out the best in each other

“to love and good deeds,”
#3 – We should be encouraging one another to do good deeds
· Go visit
· Go build that ramp
· Go help that person

#4 - We Need to Gather Together (25)
“not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.”

It says, “not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together.”
That phrase, “meeting together,” is episunagogen in Greek.
Hebrews 10 says, “Let us not give up meeting in the synagogue”
· Let us not give up meeting in the church
· The writer also tells us we are to be “encouraging one another”
Acts 2:42, “They were continuallydevotingthemselves to the apostles'teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” (Koinonia)

#1 - We need to meet together “Because we need what meeting can do for us.”
#2 - We need to meet together because when we’re here, we grow and give God glory.
#3 - We need to meet together because when we’re not here, we’re missed and everybody else who’s gathered feels a little let down because one of us isn’t here. (Today, look around…someone you know is missing)
