The Messiah has come and is coming again.

Mark 7:1-3; 5: Now when the Pharisees gathered to him, with some of the scribes who had come from Jerusalem, they saw that some of his disciples ate with hands that were defiled, that is, unwashed.(For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they wash their hands properly, holding to the tradition of the elders, and when they come from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they wash…and the Pharisees and the scribes asked him, “Why do your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat with defiled hands?”

The Question: how do you become clean?

Depravity: we want to do what is right, but we are built to do what is wrong.

The Gospel should make us humble.

The Gospel should make us hopeful.

Zechariah 3:4, 8-9 – And the angel said to those who were standing before him, “Remove the filthy garments from him.” And to him he said, “Behold, I have taken your iniquity away from you, and I will clothe you with pure vestments.” Hear now, O Joshua the high priest,…behold, I will bring my servant the Branch…and I will remove the iniquity of this land in a single day.
