This season is NOT only about what you GIVE (go ahead and enjoy that part of it) – but this season is MORE FULLY about what has already been GIVEN!
4 names were used to describe the coming Immanuel (Isa. 9:6).
Each reflects the office of deity and humanity.
“Wonderful Counselor” means an extraordinary (Divine) advisor;
“Mighty God” means a heroic God;
“Everlasting Father” means an everlasting overseer;
“Prince of Peace” means a captain who secures spiritual peace and tranquility.
When we think of ‘Might’ – we usually think of ‘bigger, stronger, power’ and we associate that with someone who APPEARS ‘MIGHTY’. NOT ONLY is Jesus a wonderful counselor, he’s come as ‘Mighty God’ - where we see the power and heroic nature of God on display in a unique and personal way. (from his birth to his resurrection).
It’s in the appearance and presence of weakness, where God’s strength can truly shine…
the Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:9
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is perfected in weakness.”… For when I am weak, then I am strong (through Christ).
In appearance of weaknesses; God’s MIGHT is truly seen in/through Jesus! Jesus Appears as a baby – but his arrival is marked by awesome power! (through the virgin birth, announcements of angels, and prophecies fulfilled)

In 1958, renowned mathematics and astronomy professor Peter Stoner studied and calculated the chances of the fulfillment of Messianic prophecies. He concluded that the probability of even 8 prophecies coming to pass is, conservatively, one in 100,000,000,000,000,000.
That’s one in one-hundred quadrillion. Just EIGHT of them.

This makes Christmas the most significant and Mighty miracle in history.
-Jesus Appears as nothing ‘overtly special’ (not from a ruling class family; just ordinary family) – but his teaching, wisdom, knowledge, and miraculous power captivates everyone! Throughout the whole of Jesus’ life, the power of God marked him and flowed from him.
As followers of Jesus – we’re to engage in life as Jesus did. Because His Power and MIGHT is still at work within our world. There’s more to do. The role of the Church is to continue to make known the grace of Jesus available to any and all – and to be a vehicle where God’s MIGHT AND POWER are still moving into the world to push back the darkness.

We’re to push back against the darkness in our time, our cities and communities, and within our sphere of influence.
“We’ve lost our theological minds to think it’s enough for people of light to sit in the light, carry the light, show the light, preach the light, podcast the light but not fight the darkness. It’s like showing up in the ring decked out, belted & gloved, & never throwing a punch. We are Jesus-followers, meaning we follow Jesus and do the works He did, with the heart for people He had.” -Beth Moore

“God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit & with power. HE WENT ABOUT DOING GOOD & healing all who were oppressed…for God was with Him.” -Acts 10:38
-at the Cross, Jesus Appears to fail and is executed – but he actually is just beginning to accomplish his plan for all of humanity; what appeared to be a period at the end of the sentence of his defeat = was actually just a comma for the still unfolding amazing victory he unleashed… A victory that is still expanding, gathering and changing people today. God's power on ultimate display through the Cross and Resurrection!
(1 Corinthians 1:18) "The message of the cross seems foolish to those who are lost and dying. But it is God’s power to us who are being saved."
The Mighty Power of God is still at work within us, through us and within this world, friends. Love is God's favorite and most effective expression of his MIGHT!
We have a MIGHTY GOD - remember: often when things have an appearance of weakness, that’s when His strength can show up most profoundly! Ask Jesus to exercise his power more and more in your life and through your life. Ask Him to empower you in your living, to love well and move His kingdom forward!
