Communicating the Gospel in Our Culture [October 28, 2018] Charley Charlton
What is the gospel?
1 Corinthians 15:1-5
Romans 1:14-17
1) God loves you and wants to have a close relationship with you
Ephesians 2:1-5
2) We all sin against God
Romans 3:23
3) The sin in us causes a couple of major problems
Separation (Isaiah 59:2)
Death (Romans 6:23)
4) Good works are never enough to pay the penalty for our sin
Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5
5) The solution is that God sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross and pay the death penalty for us so we don't have to pay it ourselves
Romans 5:8
6) We respond to Jesus by making up our minds to turn from sin and believe in Jesus for salvation and eternal life
Matthew 4:17; Mark 1:14-15; Acts 3:17-20; Matthew 7:21-23
7) When we turn from our sins and believe in God's son, Jesus Christ, three thing happen
a. Our sins are forgiven
b. We begin a close personal relationship with God
c. His Holy Spirit comes to live in us (2 Cor. 5:17; Eph. 1:13)
How can we communicate it quickly enough to be practical?
Share your testimony in two minutes or less
How do we practically get started in our culture and context?
How do we build friendships with unbelievers?
Luke 5:27-32
Jesus intentionally spent time with sinners so that he could call them to salvation.
What is are some spiritual conversation starters?
1) Do you have any spiritual interest?
2) What is your spiritual background?
(Follow up questions: Was that a good or bad experience etc.)
3) Do you feel that you are close to God, far from God, or somewhere in the middle?
4a) I have a couple of practical steps that you can take to get (even) closer to God. Would you like to hear those? (If yes share the gospel)(If no “Ok can I give you something to read then?”)
4b) Would you like to get together to read some of the teachings of Jesus and then talk about them?
How can we get into the word with an interested friend?
