One Question to Carry This Week:
“Who is God putting in my path that needs to experience the Good News through me?”
And remember: We don’t love people so that God will love us. We love people because God has already loved us.
Start Talking:
• What is some good news you’ve been excited to share with someone recently?
• Why do you think we naturally talk about the things we’re excited about, yet sometimes struggle to talk about the Good News of Jesus?
Start Thinking:
• The priest and Levite both saw the wounded man but chose to pass by. What are some reasons people might see a need but still choose not to get involved?
• Why do you think Jesus intentionally made a Samaritan the hero of the story?
• Pastor Troy said, “Your neighbor is the person God puts in your path who needs your mercy.” How does that challenge the way we normally define our “neighbors”?
• What does it mean to love someone beyond the label we have placed on them?
• Pastor Troy said, “Grace is never an invitation to remain unchanged.” How should receiving God's grace affect the way we treat other people?
Start Sharing:
• Who are the people or groups that you find it hardest to love like Jesus?
• Are there any barriers—political, cultural, relational, personal, or otherwise—that make it difficult for you to see someone as your neighbor?
• Can you think of a time when someone sacrificed their time, money, comfort, or convenience to show you mercy? What impact did it have on you?
• What might loving your neighbor actually cost you right now?
• Who is someone God may already be putting in your path who needs to experience the Good News through you?
Start Praying:
• Ask God to show you the people you may be walking past instead of loving.
• Ask the Holy Spirit to help you see people the way Jesus sees them—beyond labels, differences, and disagreements.
• Pray for courage to cross whatever barrier is necessary to show someone the mercy and love of Jesus.
Start Doing:
• Pay attention. This week, intentionally look for someone God places in your path who needs encouragement, mercy, help, or simply someone to listen.
• Cross a barrier. Take one intentional step toward someone you normally wouldn’t interact with or might naturally avoid.
• Go and do likewise. Sacrifice something—your time, money, convenience, or comfort—to meet a practical need for someone else.
