Vision — When the Spirit Opens Your Eyes
Core Truth
God will often transform the way you see before He transforms what you see.
Big Idea
The Holy Spirit doesn't just give us comfort for where we've been—He gives us vision for where God is taking us.
INTRODUCTION — WHAT DO YOU SEE?
They have to be revealed by the Spirit.
1. VISION REQUIRES BREAKING FREE FROM THE WORLD'S VIEW
Power Statement
You cannot live God's vision while allowing the world to define what's possible.
Stop conforming.
Start transforming.
Abraham — Get Out So I Can Show You
Leave what you know, and I'll show you what you don't.
Leave what you know, and I'll show you what you don't.
First:
Get out.
Then:
Look up.
Then:
See.
Get out.
Then:
Look up.
Then:
See.
POWER MOMENT
Sometimes you can't see what's next because you're still looking through the lens of what was.
GOD OFTEN TRAINS THE VISIONARY BEFORE TRUSTING THEM WITH THE VISION
“The dream isn't working.”
God says:
“I'm preparing the dreamer.”
“I'm preparing the dreamer.”
Genesis 41:39–40 NKJV
Joseph's difficulty wasn't evidence that the vision had died.
Joseph's difficulty wasn't evidence that the vision had died.
David Experienced the Same Pattern
The formation took years.
POWER MOMENT
God may give you the vision in a moment,
but He develops the character required to carry it over time.
but He develops the character required to carry it over time.
“God, when are You going to get me out of this?”
“Don't miss what I'm putting into you while you're in it.”
People begin to see.
Moses — From Shepherd to Deliverer
God saw assignment.
But Kingdom vision isn't based primarily upon your capacity.
It's based upon God's calling.
POWER MOMENT
Stop measuring God's vision by your current resources. If God gave the assignment, He already knows what you don't have.
GOD-GIVEN VISION IS BIGGER THAN YOU
God's vision almost always includes people.
God gives influence so we can lift people.
The pit wasn't just about Joseph.
There were people attached to his obedience.
God gives us influence so we can see people.
YOUR PAIN MAY BECOME SOMEBODY ELSE'S PLATFORM FOR FREEDOM
It can become training for your assignment.
POWER MOMENT
God doesn't waste redeemed pain.
THE LEADERSHIP SIDE OF VISION
Kingdom leadership sees something in people that they cannot yet see in themselves.
POWER STATEMENT
Great leaders don't only see people as they are. They see who they could become under the transforming power of Jesus.
BRIDGE / APPLICATION — ASK GOD TO OPEN YOUR EYES
Maybe God is trying to show you who you're becoming.
Not simply:
“God, fix this.”
“God, fix this.”
Pray:
“Holy Spirit, show me what You're doing through this.”
“What are You developing in me?”
“What thinking needs to change?”
“What have I allowed the world to tell me is impossible?”
“What are You asking me to see?”
“Holy Spirit, show me what You're doing through this.”
“What are You developing in me?”
“What thinking needs to change?”
“What have I allowed the world to tell me is impossible?”
“What are You asking me to see?”
And finally:
“Who have You entrusted to me that I'm supposed to lift?
“Who have You entrusted to me that I'm supposed to lift?
CLOSING
Revelation.
God shows you something.
God shows you something.
Formation.
God prepares you for it.
God prepares you for it.
Renewal.
Old thinking begins breaking.
Old thinking begins breaking.
Vision.
You begin seeing from God's perspective.
You begin seeing from God's perspective.
Assignment.
God entrusts you with responsibility.
God entrusts you with responsibility.
Influence.
And suddenly you realize...
And suddenly you realize...
The vision was never only about you.
There were people attached to your obedience.
There were people attached to your obedience.
FINAL DECLARATION
Don't despise the season that is developing the person capable of carrying the vision God is preparing to reveal.
He doesn't only show you where you're going.
He begins showing you who you're becoming—and who you're called to bring with you
