What is something you own that you would have a really hard time getting rid of—even if you know you probably don’t need it?

What do you think Jesus means when He says that life does not consist in an abundance of possessions? Why do you think that can be so easy to forget?

What is one possession or category of “stuff” that you really enjoy having and makes your life better?

How would your perspective on your possessions change if you consistently viewed God as the Owner and yourself as the steward?

What are some ways that our “stuff” can begin to own us rather than us simply owning and enjoying it?

When you think about the idea that everything you have ultimately comes from God—including your abilities, opportunities, relationships, and resources—what does that stir in you?

As you think about your life, finances, possessions, time, and resources, what does it look like to loosen your grip and manage what God has given you as a steward rather than an owner?

God, thank You for everything You have given us. Help us remember that everything we have ultimately comes from You and belongs to You. Forgive us for the times we have allowed possessions, money, or the desire for more to take too much of our attention and affection.
Help us to live with open hands rather than closed fists. Teach us to be faithful stewards of everything You have entrusted to us—our possessions, finances, time, abilities, relationships, and opportunities. Give us wisdom to know how You want us to use what You have given us, and give us generous hearts that reflect Your love. May we remember that our lives are about more than what we own. Everything comes from You, exists through You, and is ultimately for Your glory. Amen.
