How do we know the Goodness of God?

(Psalm 34:8 NLT) Taste and see that the LORD is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!

God does not just do good, God isgood.

(Psalm 92:15 NLT) They will declare, "The LORD is just! He is my rock! There is noevil in him!"

(Psalm 23:6 NLT) Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the LORD forever.

(Matthew 5:45 NLT) ... For He gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike.

(James 1:17 NLT) Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.

Suffering and evil are not creations of God; they are consequences of sin.
(Titus 3:4-7 ESV) But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Jesus appeared & Jesus saved

(2 Corinthians 5:21 NLT) For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.

The Goodness of God was forever settled by blood Jesus shed on the cross.

(Isaiah 53:4-5 NLT) Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins! But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.

(Colossians 2:13-15 NLT) ... God made you alive with Christ, for He forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.

• Satan thought the cross was the end of Jesus; God was demonstrating Jesus' reign over... death -- evil -- suffering -- sickness -- depression -- brokenness.

(Philippians 2:9-11 NLT) Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

• Because Jesus reigns we can receive God's Goodness.

(Psalm 103:2-5 NLT) Let all that I am praise the LORD; may I never forget the good things he does for me..... He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle's

Because Jesus reigns ...

• when we lack, thru Him we receive blessing

(Psalm 103:5 NLT) He fills my life with good things. ...

Because Jesus reigns ...

• over confusion we can receive identity.

(1 Peter 2:9-10 NLT) ... you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God's very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God,... "Once you had no identity as a people; now you are God's people. ...

Because Jesus reigns ...

• over condemnation so we can receive redemption.

(Romans 8:1 NLT) So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.

Because Jesus reigns ...

• over disease so we can receive healing.

(1 Peter 2:24 NLT) ... By his wounds you are healed.
Because Jesus reigns ...

• over sin so we can receive salvation

(Romans 10:9 ESV) because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
