There are two very important truths that are found in this passage. The first instruction Jesus delivers is a new command: Love one another.
• This command can be traced back to Moses and his reception of the Law given by God on Mount Sinai. (see Lev. 19:18)
• The ‘new’ aspect is seen in the manner or fashion we are to love our neighbors: As He loves us.

Jesus’ new command for us to love one another as He loves us does not do away with the responsibility to love one another as we love ourselves. It expands the original command and takes it to new heights.
• It is a great struggle to love others as we love ourselves because far too many people have a problem loving themselves correctly.
• Our standard is often flawed which is why a new standard needs to be introduced, a standard that is without error or flaw.

Some Ways Jesus Loves Us:
1. Jesus Allows For Diversity
• Diversity and unity are sometimes misunderstood by some in the family of God. Just because someone is outside our specific group doesn’t mean there is no unity.
• Diversity means there is a variety to the ways in which we carry out our united purpose.
• Diversity allows you and I to live out our faith the way the Holy Spirit guides and gifts us.

2. Jesus Exercised Compassion
Meeting Physical Needs (Matt. 15:29-32)
• No one can say they have compassion if they turn their backs on the physical needs of humanity.

Meeting Emotional Needs (Matt. 9:36) This is a reference to someone going beyond the meeting of physical needs. People need to be loved. People need to be wanted, to be cared for. People need someone to befriend them, to genuinely have a concern for them.
3. Jesus Exercised Servanthood
• Jesus expressed His love toward us by exercising servanthood.
• Service never means “serve us.”

4. Jesus Gave His All
• This is the second time Jesus mentions loving others as He loves us. By following Jesus’ examples, we will be able to fulfill this expectation.
APPLICATION
Two-fold reason why Jesus gave us a new command:
• Verification: By this...all men will know that you are my disciples.
• The ’by this’ that Jesus refers to is the new command to love others as He loves us. Loving others as Christ loved us shows the world who we are.

• Witness: If you love one another as I love you, all men will know you are my disciples. Loving others as Christ loved us shows the world who Jesus is.
The world cannot exercise the love of Jesus. His disciples can, for: The love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. (Romans 5:5)

In 2010, we began collecting an Annual Oktoberfest Offering to pay our mortgage payment for the next 12 months. We financed $850,000 to build our new addition with the purpose that it be built, not only for use by FBC, but also as a community space. As of November 1, 2026, we will have an approximate balance of $70,100 left on this mortgage. Our goal is to pay it off this year! Start planning how you can help us achieve this goal so we can celebrate this historic milestone.

Hearing Assistance Devices Available
We have hearing assistance devices available during the morning worship service which allow the user to control the volume based on their individual needs. They are available from the Sound Booth at the rear of the sanctuary and are cleaned and sanitized after each use. For questions, see Rocky Starland.

Did you know that if your bank offers online services, you can set your tithe up as a regular ‘bill payment’ through your bank? This is a convenient option to help with continuity in giving and the ability for you to tithe even when you are on vacation or miss church. It eliminates having to wonder if you turned in your offering while you were gone! Don’t forget that your beverage can & bottle donations are used to fund teen scholarships for youth retreats, summer camps, special activities, etc. Please bring your recyclable items to the church anytime!

• Joyce Bocock has a large hematoma in her thigh which is causing a significant amount of pain and making it difficult for her to walk.
• Marge Benham has a lump on her shoulder that has been found to be cancerous. She will have radiation and surgery this summer and the doctors are confident this is treatable and beatable.
• Dylan Goff's fiance, Taylor, who is recovering from a stroke and will probably have a procedure done to repair a hole in her heart within the next few weeks.
• Abby Bocock has been diagnosed with Lyme Disease.
• Alice Avery fractured her elbow and is doing therapy.
• John Seitz is recovering from prostate surgery.
• Bruce Ferguson is recovering from a procedure to prepare his prostate and bladder for radiation. Pray that everything heals properly.
