No Condemnation
Paul’s emphasis for our freedom in Christ is based in our identity of being “in Christ Jesus”
Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death?
Romans 6:3
Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
Romans 6:11
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:23
“Condemnation” is best understood here not as the guilt of judgment, but the burden of penalty (penal servitude)
The gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned; for on the one hand the judgment arose from one transgression resulting in condemnation...
Romans 5:16
So then as through one transgression there resulted condemnation to all men...
Romans 5:18
We now, today live free of the old bondage to sin
The Spirit of Life
There is another, greater power that can control us and it is the power of the Holy Spirit who lives in us
"I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth…but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.
John 14:16-17
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?
1 Corinthians 6:19
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of life, in contrast to the law of sin and death
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
John 10:10
The Holy Spirit is our thrust and lift over the gravity of sin
There is life in the Spirit because Jesus executed judgment on the law of sin and death
Walk According to the Spirit, Not the Flesh
The desired outcome is that we would live righteously – we would fly spiritually
We live righteously by walking according to the Spirit
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.
Galatians 5:16
To walk according to the Spirit is to make Jesus the governing force in our life
When we walk according to the Spirit, He empowers us to live righteously – He causes us to fly spiritually
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
2 Corinthians 3:17
But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.
