How Do I Apply the Bible to My Life?
If you’ve ever been confused, skeptical, or just curious about the Bible—this is your moment. “Theology for the Rest of Us”—where we strip away the confusion and make the Bible come alive for real, everyday people. Most of us don’t need more information—we need real transformation.
We’re continuing Theology for the Rest of Us with a practical message called, “How Do I Apply the Bible to My Life?” We’ll talk about how to move from simply reading Scripture to actually living it—letting God’s Word shape your identity, motives, emotions, and actions.
You’ll learn a simple way to ask, “So what does this mean?” and “Now what is God asking me to do?” We’ll also walk through practical steps like making time, meditating on Scripture, and memorizing God’s Word so it becomes strength when pressure, temptation, fear, and anxiety show up.
If you’ve ever read the Bible and walked away confused, unchanged, or unsure what to do next, this message will help you experience Scripture in a fresh way.
Key words: Bible, Theology, Disciple Making, The Way, New Believer

If we read the Bible, and leave unchanged, we become whitewashed tombs! But if we let the Bible read us, God brings what’s dead inside of us back to life.
HOW DO WE APPLY IT TO OUR LIVES?
How is this verse/passage significant to my Life today?
1. Make Time
You will not accidentally become spiritually healthy. You will not accidentally become spiritually healthy.
2. Meditate
Meditation is when Scripture moves from a moment in your day to the mindset of your life.
3. Memorize
The True Essence of Application Is Not Addition; It Is Subtraction
Real encounters with God do not just change what you know. Change how you walk.
Talk it Over
1. Confused, Educated, or Transformed?
The message talked about three possible results of reading the Bible: leaving confused, leaving educated, or leaving transformed.
- Which one best describes your experience with Scripture lately?
- What do you think keeps you from moving from information to transformation?
2. When Knowledge Doesn’t Become Life
Jesus warned about people who looked righteous on the outside but were unchanged on the inside.
- Have you ever known the right answers spiritually but struggled to actually live them?
- What is the difference between knowing about God and truly knowing God in your heart?
3. “So What?” — Understanding What God Is Saying
Before we apply Scripture, we have to understand it.
- When you read the Bible, do you usually slow down enough to ask, “What does this actually mean?”
- What helps you understand context, authorial intent, and what God was saying through the passage?
4. “Now What?” — Obedience in Real Life
Jesus said, “If you love me, keep my commands.”
- What is one area where God may be asking you not just to understand His Word, but obey it?
- Why do you think obedience can feel difficult even when we know God’s way is best?
5. Letting Scripture Speak to the Whole Person
The message showed that God’s Word speaks to our identity, motives, emotions, and actions.
- Which of those areas do you most need God’s Word to shape right now?
- What would it look like to let Scripture speak into that area this week?
6. Making Time, Meditating, and Memorizing
The message gave three simple practices: make time, meditate, and memorize.
- Which one of those feels most needed in your life right now?
- What is one realistic rhythm you could start this week to let God’s Word move from a moment in your day to the mindset of your life?
7. More of Jesus, Less of Me
Application is not just addition; it is subtraction. John the Baptist said, “He must become greater; I must become less.”
- What is something in your life that may need to decrease so Jesus can increase?
- Where do you sense God inviting you to surrender control?
8. Hold On Until God Moves
Jacob said, “I will not let you go unless you bless me,” and he walked away changed.
- What would it look like for you to hold onto God’s Word until He speaks, shapes, strengthens, or changes you?
- What is one passage, promise, or truth you need to keep holding onto in this season?
