** Icebreaker - What is your strategy when you play Monopoly? Buy everything you land on? Buy certain colored properties? Railroads - yes or no? **
Focus Verse. Have someone read 1 John 4:1.
To demonstrate the importance of discerning false teaching, let's play two truths and a lie. Pick two people to share three facts about themselves - two of them need to be true, one needs to be false. The group must decide which fact is false for each person. Be convincing!
** Have you ever heard a "God told me to" story that didn't seem legit? **
Sean taught that there are three questions to ask to determine if a statement is really from God or not. Let's discuss.
The first question is - Does it promote sin? God will never tell us to sin or do something that contradicts the Bible. If that's the case, it's definitely not from God. Have someone read James 1:13-15.
The second question is - Does it create selfishness? Does it make you more popular or the winner or the one who gets their way? If this is true, it's probably not from God. Have someone read 1 Corinthians 10:31.
The third question is - Does it result in satisfaction? Does it make your life easier or richer? If this is true, it may not be from God. Have someone read James 4:2-3.
Let's practice checking ourselves before we wreck ourselves! For each of the following scenarios, answer the three questions from above to evaluate the likelihood that the statement is from God. Does it promote sin? Does it create selfishness? Does it result in satisfaction?
Search Scripture together to help determine your answer. Please note - you won't get a clear answer for all of them (they aren't all necessarily bad). Discuss what additional information you would need to make your decision. Don't be hasty in drawing a conclusion. Take time to talk and deliberate each scenario.

Prayer 4U - Have everyone put their name in a hat, then take turns picking a name to pray for this week. Pray that God would give your person discernment when someone brings up a "God told me to" situation.
Guided Prayer - (Leader, include the following in your prayer time). Father, help us to be so in tune with your Word and your character that we can tell when statements are from You and when they are not. Amen.
