It Runs in the Family - Disqualified?
Families are complicated. Patterns get passed down, brokenness gets repeated, and sometimes it feels like we’re stuck in cycles we didn’t choose. In In this series, we’ll look at the life of Jacob and discover how God meets us right in the middle of dysfunction—not to shame us, but to redeem us. What’s been passed down doesn’t have to define you. God can rewrite your story.

Before God ever says a word… we disqualify ourselves.
Disqualified?
You don’t just experience dysfunction… you start building your whole life around trying to outrun it.
Does what shaped me… now disqualify me?
God’s Plan Is Bigger Than Your Dysfunction
Your dysfunction does not disqualify you… but it does reveal where you need God’s grace.
God doesn’t just work in spite of broken stories… He often chooses to work through them.
Grace Meets You In The Mess, But It Does Not Ignore The Sin
He is blessed simply because God is faithful.
Grace does not mean sin is not serious.
Grace means sin is not final.
Grace means sin is not final.
God’s grace will cover you.
But God’s grace will also confront you.
But God’s grace will also confront you.
Grace is not God pretending nothing happened.
Grace is God dealing with what happened.
Grace is God dealing with what happened.
Grace meets you in the middle of the mess.
But it refuses to leave you there.
But it refuses to leave you there.
Just like you don’t go to the gym to stay the same.
You don’t come to Jesus to stay stuck in sin!
You don’t come to Jesus to stay stuck in sin!
Grace is not an excuse to stay the same.
Grace is the power to become different.
Grace is the power to become different.
The Grace Ditch:
Ditch 1:
If I behave right, God will love me.
If I behave right, God will love me.
You do not live for God’s love.
You live from it.
You live from it.
Ditch 2:
If grace is free, then I can live however I want.
If grace is free, then I can live however I want.
Grace is not permission to sin.
Grace is power to change.
Grace is power to change.
Your behavior does not earn God’s love.
But grace also does not leave your behavior unchanged.
But grace also does not leave your behavior unchanged.
Grace covers you.
Grace confronts you.
Grace changes you.
Grace confronts you.
Grace changes you.
Grace Gets The Final Word
Your past does not get the final word.
Your family does not get the final word.
Your sin does not get the final word.
Your shame does not get the final word.
Jesus gets the final word.
Your family does not get the final word.
Your sin does not get the final word.
Your shame does not get the final word.
Jesus gets the final word.
What part of your story have you believed disqualifies you?
Grace does not expose sin to embarrass you. Grace exposes sin to heal you.
Identify the lie.
What have you believed disqualifies you?
Name it.
Bring it before God.
And then replace that lie with the truth of the gospel
What have you believed disqualifies you?
Name it.
Bring it before God.
And then replace that lie with the truth of the gospel
Your dysfunction may explain you.
Your desires may expose you.
But neither one gets to disqualify you.
Jesus already paid for that.
Your desires may expose you.
But neither one gets to disqualify you.
Jesus already paid for that.
