Growing up, what did prayer usually look like for you—quick before meals, bedtime routine, only when you were in trouble, something else?
When you think about prayer, what has your experience been like—easy, confusing, frustrating, meaningful, or something else?
Have you ever prayed for something specific and felt like God didn’t answer the way you hoped? What did that do to your faith or your willingness to keep praying?
During the message this past week Pastor Jonathan talked about treating God like a “transaction” instead of a relationship. In what ways do you think people (maybe even yourself) can fall into that mindset?
Ephesians 3:20 says that God can do “infinitely more than we might ask or think.” How have you seen God work beyond your expectations—or how does that challenge the way you currently pray?
The idea was shared that every prayer is answered—just sometimes with “no,” “not yet,” or “different.” Which of those is hardest for you to accept, and why?
Looking back on your life, can you think of a time where God answered a prayer differently than you wanted—but it actually turned out better in the end?
The message emphasized that God’s main promise is His presence, not always a specific outcome. How does that shift your perspective on prayer or what you expect from God?
Prayer
God, we come to You honestly today. We thank You that You invite us into a relationship with You—not just to ask for things, but to know You and walk with You. We admit that sometimes we’ve treated prayer like a transaction, expecting certain outcomes instead of trusting Your heart. Teach us to trust You, even when the answer is no, not yet, or different than we hoped. Help us to see that You are with us in every moment, even when we don’t understand what You’re doing. Give us patience when we have to wait, humility to examine our hearts, and faith to believe that Your plans are better than ours. Help us grow through every season and become more like Jesus. We trust You, and we thank You that You are always working, even when we can’t see it. Amen.
