CONVERSATION STARTERS

1. Read Exodus 20.

2. The Ten Commandments are a mirror, revealing our deep need for a Savior. Identify one commandment (e.g., do not lie, do not covet, honor your parents) that currently feels the most exposing or difficult for you to adhere to. Share with the group.

3. God’s ideal instructions reveal his loving character. As you reflect on the commandments, what do you learn about God’s character?

4. Idolatry is not just an ancient problem, it remains a present struggle for every human heart. Reflect on the first three commandments. What is a "functional god" or source of security in your life that you find yourself turning to besides Yahweh—perhaps in times of anxiety, scarcity, or when seeking affirmation?

5. The Sabbath command is one of the "ideal instructions" that's meant to be a gift and a pathway to the flourishing with-God life. Share one tangible practice or boundary you've put in place (or would like to put in place) to intentionally stop striving and embrace God’s rest. What makes this particular command challenging for you?

6. The commandments provide a beautiful blueprint for a just and loving society. Review the last six commands (focused on loving your neighbor). These commands were not just prohibitions but were to create a society where one seeks the good of their neighbor not just the absence of evil. What is a concrete step you can take tolove a specific person in your life/community?
