Part 1: Undistracted and Determined

1 Corinthians 9:24, New Living Translation
Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize.
1 Corinthians 9:26, NLT
So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing.
1 Corinthians 9:27a, NLT
I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should.
1 Corinthians 9:27b, NLT
Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.
How do we train self-discipline?
1. Watch Your Mouth
2. Guard Your Eyes
3. Protect Your Time
Discipline means learning to say NO to good things so you can say YES to the BEST thing. Your relationship with Jesus.
Hebrews 12:1a, NLT
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith,
Hebrews 12:1b, NLT
let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.
· What’s weighing me down?
· What sin keeps tripping me up?
Hebrews 12:2, NLT
We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.
You can’t keep your eyes on someone you’re not spending time with.
1. Prayer
2. Reading His Word
3. Worship
4. Spend time with God’s People
Hebrews 10:23, NLT
Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.
James 1:12, NLT
God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.
