Big Idea: You can’t stand strong on shaky faith — build your life on truth and integrity.
Living in My Feelings
Most of us are trying to fight life while living in our feelings.
Most of us are trying to fight life while living in our feelings.
Feelings are real, but they’re not reliable. They’re a signal—not a steering wheel.
Paul starts with truth and righteousness.
Because you can’t fight spiritual battles while living in your feelings.
Because you can’t fight spiritual battles while living in your feelings.
FIRST-CENTURY BATTLE READINESS
• Belt first
• Breastplate second
• Everything else attached to those foundations
• Breastplate second
• Everything else attached to those foundations
You can’t build strength on weak structure. The war exposes what your life rests on.
If truth and integrity aren’t in place, the rest of your spiritual life becomes unstable.
If truth and integrity aren’t in place, the rest of your spiritual life becomes unstable.
THREE DIMENSIONS OF FOUNDATION
1) THE BELT OF TRUTH — TRUTH HOLDS EVERYTHING TOGETHER
Greek word: ἀλήθεια (alētheia)
Meaning: truth, reality, what’s actually real—the opposite of deception, the opposite of illusion.
Meaning: truth, reality, what’s actually real—the opposite of deception, the opposite of illusion.
Truth doesn’t shift with the room.
Truth is what keeps you steady when the room shifts.
Truth is what keeps you steady when the room shifts.
The Roman Belt (Cingulum Militare)
Military reality: Lose the belt, lose the battle.
Spiritual reality: Lose truth, lose stability.
Spiritual reality: Lose truth, lose stability.
The Enemy’s Primary Weapon: Lies
That strategy has never changed.
The enemy rarely attacks you head-on. He whispers you off course.
Lies become foundations. And foundations decide the future.
Lies become foundations. And foundations decide the future.
New Testament: Truth Sets You Free
Truth isn’t just a concept.
Truth is a Person.
Truth is a Person.
The loudest voice in your life is the one you repeat in your mind.
Augustine of Hippo (4th–5th century)
Truth is like a lion; you don’t have to defend it. Let it loose; it will defend itself.
Truth is like a lion; you don’t have to defend it. Let it loose; it will defend itself.
Stop negotiating with lies.
Let truth do what truth does.
Let truth do what truth does.
Most people don’t realize the lies they believe.
They just call them “who I am.”
They just call them “who I am.”
That’s not personality. That’s programming.
This week: write the lie you hear most often.
Find one verse that confronts it.
Find one verse that confronts it.
2) THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS — INTEGRITY PROTECTS YOUR HEART
A better modern word is integrity.
Righteousness isn’t pretending you’re clean. It’s refusing to live like split personalities.
Righteousness isn’t pretending you’re clean. It’s refusing to live like split personalities.
Greek word: δικαιοσύνη (dikaiosynē)
Meaning: right living, integrity, alignment with God—living the way God calls “right.”
Meaning: right living, integrity, alignment with God—living the way God calls “right.”
• The righteousness Christ gives you (right standing)
• The righteousness you live out (right choices)
• The righteousness you live out (right choices)
Two Types of Righteousness:
1. Positional Righteousness— What Christ did FOR you (salvation, justification) - 2 Corinthians 5:21
2. Practical Righteousness — What you do BECAUSE of what Christ did (obedience, holiness) - 1 John 2:29
1. Positional Righteousness— What Christ did FOR you (salvation, justification) - 2 Corinthians 5:21
2. Practical Righteousness — What you do BECAUSE of what Christ did (obedience, holiness) - 1 John 2:29
The Breastplate Represents Both:
• Imputed Righteousness (what God declares about you) protects your identity
• Practiced Righteousness (how you live) protects your integrity
• Imputed Righteousness (what God declares about you) protects your identity
• Practiced Righteousness (how you live) protects your integrity
The Roman Breastplate (Lorica)
Lorica segmentata: overlapping metal strips held together with straps

Compromise is never “small.” It’s a doorway the enemy keeps checking.
New Testament: Righteousness Guards Your Life
This is your identity.
You don’t earn it. You receive it.
You don’t earn it. You receive it.
Grace isn’t permission to stay the same.
Grace is power to live different.
Grace is power to live different.
Early Church Voice — John Chrysostom (Integrity)
What it means (in today’s language):
What it means (in today’s language):
Most spiritual collapses don’t start with rebellion. They start with tolerance.
What you tolerate today becomes what trains you tomorrow.
The Breastplate = Integrity that protects your heart.
What you tolerate today becomes what trains you tomorrow.
The Breastplate = Integrity that protects your heart.
3) FOUNDATION FIRST — STAND OR FALL
If truth and integrity aren’t secured, then faith becomes fragile, peace becomes temporary, and prayer becomes inconsistent.
If truth and integrity aren’t secured, then faith becomes fragile, peace becomes temporary, and prayer becomes inconsistent.
New Testament: Standing Strong
Pressure doesn’t change who you are. It reveals what you’re built on.
FINAL CALL
What are you building your life on?
What are you building your life on?
