Sermon Text: Acts 21:1-16
Preparation Question: Where in your life do you sense God has already made His will clear but obedience feels costly or uncomfortable?
Five lessons from Acts 21:1-16 about obedience and prophecy:
1. Faithful Obedience Must be Settled Before the Storm Begins. (Acts 19:21; 20:22)
1. Faithful Obedience Must be Settled Before the Storm Begins. (Acts 19:21; 20:22)
2. Prophecy Can Be Spirit-Inspired but Humanly Misapplied. (v. 4-7)
3. Warnings Are Not Always Detours—Sometimes They Are Preparations. (vs. 8–14)
4. Faithful Obedience Reflects the Pattern of Christ Himself. (Luke 9:51)
5. Obedience Ultimately Belongs to the Lord, Not the Crowd. (v. 13–16)
Response Questions:
1. In Acts 21, Paul receives multiple warnings about suffering in Jerusalem. How do you distinguish between a warning meant to prepare you and one meant to redirect you?
2. The believers in Tyre spoke “through the Spirit” yet urged Paul not to go. What does this teach us about the need to test spiritual impressions using Scripture?
3. Paul’s obedience was settled before the danger appeared. What are some practical ways believers can settle their obedience to God before facing pressure, fear, or opposition?
4. Jesus “set His face toward Jerusalem” knowing what awaited Him. How does seeing Paul follow this same pattern deepen your understanding of what it means to follow Christ faithfully?
5. What is one area where you need to stop negotiating with God and instead set your face toward faithful obedience, trusting Him with the outcome, even if the cost is high?
