When her master arose in the morning and opened the doors of the house and went out to go on his way, then behold, his concubine was lying at the doorway of the house with her hands on the threshold.

Sins of Omission

Sins of omission are good things we know we should do, but we don’t do them

Every Jew is included in this accusation

But does this create some problems Biblically?

“None righteous, not even one”

By faith Abel offered to God a better sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained the testimony that he was righteous, God testifying about his gifts, and through faith, though he is dead, he still speaks.
Hebrews 11:4

Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.
Genesis 5:24

The LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, fearing God and turning away from evil."
Job 1:8

Even though Noah, Daniel and Job were in its midst, as I live," declares the Lord GOD, "they could not deliver either their son or their daughter. They would deliver only themselves by their righteousness."
Ezekiel 14:20

“There is none who seeks for God”
When You said, "Seek My face," my heart said to You, "Your face, O LORD, I shall seek."
Psalm 27:8

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
Matthew 5:6

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
Matthew 7:7

That they would seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us;
Acts 17:27

One way to reconcile this is to see the genre from which Paul pulls these thoughts: Poetry (songs) and wisdom literature, not epistemological writings – he is making a general point

Against You, You only, I have sinned and done what is evil in Your sight, so that You are justified when You speak and blameless when You judge.
Psalms 51:4

Another way to reconcile this is the idea that if completely left to ourselves, none of us would seek or do good, but the reality is that God has pursued all of us and has not left us completely to ourselves

Either way Paul’s point remains that all Jews are under sin of omission, just like the Gentiles

Sins of Commission

Sins of commission are the bad things we know we are not supposed to do and we do them anyway

Notice the focus on our body: Throat 13a; Tongue 13b; Lips 13c; Mouth 13; Feet 15; Eyes 18

No Justification Through the Law

The laws judges those under the law, and no one will measure up

Under the law nobody will ever be justified in God’s sight

Both Jews and Gentiles are under sin

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
Romans 3:23
