Locations & Times

CONVERSATION STARTERS
1. Read Mark 14:32-52.
2. Jesus’ Silence & Trust – Before both the Jewish and Roman authorities, Jesus does not defend Himself, even as He faces injustice (Mark 14:61; 15:5). How does His response challenge our own instincts for self-preservation and defense? What does it look like to trust God even when things seem unfair?
3. Peter’s Denial vs. Jesus’ Faithfulness – While Jesus remains faithful to his mission, Peter denies him out of fear (Mark 14:66–72). When have you shrunk back from faith when it was costly? How can we grow in courage and commitment to Jesus in difficult moments?
4. Jesus Takes Our Place – Barabbas, a convicted criminal, is freed while Jesus is condemned (Mark 15:6–15). How does this exchange reflect the heart of the gospel? In what ways do you see yourself in Barabbas?
5. Accepting Freedom in Christ – Sometimes, we struggle to embrace the freedom Jesus offers and instead hold onto guilt, shame, or old patterns of thought. What keeps people from fully receiving the love and redemption Jesus provides? How can you intentionally live in the freedom Christ has given you this week?

Who are you in this story?
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Were you there when they nail'd him to the cross?
Were you there when they pierced him in the side?
Were you there when the sun refused to shine?
O sometimes it causes me to tremble! tremble! Tremble!
Were you there when they nail'd him to the cross?
Were you there when they pierced him in the side?
Were you there when the sun refused to shine?
O sometimes it causes me to tremble! tremble! Tremble!
– We are all Barabbas, guilty and condemned.
– Because of Jesus, we CAN all be Barabbas, released and freed.
We believe that Jesus Christ, as our representative and substitute, shed His blood on the cross as the perfect, all-sufficient sacrifice for our sins. His atoning death and victorious resurrection constitute the only ground for salvation. ~ EFCA Statement of Faith
Death Was Arrested
Alone in my sorrow and dead in my sin
Lost without hope with no place to begin
Your love Made a way to let mercy come in
When death was arrested and my life began
Ash was redeemed only beauty remains
My orphan heart was given a name
My mourning grew quiet my feet rose to dance
When death was arrested and my life began
Released from my chains I'm a prisoner no more
My shame was a ransom He faithfully bore
He cancelled my debt and He called me His friend
When death was arrested and my life began
Our savior displayed on a criminal's cross
Darkness rejoiced as though heaven had lost
But then Jesus arose with our freedom in hand
That's when death was arrested and my life began
Alone in my sorrow and dead in my sin
Lost without hope with no place to begin
Your love Made a way to let mercy come in
When death was arrested and my life began
Ash was redeemed only beauty remains
My orphan heart was given a name
My mourning grew quiet my feet rose to dance
When death was arrested and my life began
Released from my chains I'm a prisoner no more

When death was arrested and my life began

But then Jesus arose with our freedom in hand
That's when death was arrested and my life began
