The Hope of the World - The Church is a Hospital
The Hope of the World – The Church is a Hospital Many people view church as a place for perfect people and have various ideas and expectations of what a church is, should be or should do. Join us as Pastor Erik Lawson reminds us that the church is actually a hospital for the hurting. In this message, we learn what it means for the church to be a place of healing, hope, second chances, and how God uses us to help others find restoration.

1 Peter 4:9 NKJV “Be hospitable to one another without grumbling.”
The church is hospitable, or a hospital, for the sick and hurting
Luke 10:33a NKJV “But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was…”
Luke 10:33b-34 NKJV “And when he saw him, he had COMPASSION. So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.”
Luke 10:35 NKJV “On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.’”
The Church is the Inn to which Jesus brings the ______________ and wounded
EXPECTATIONS: Hospital vs. Church
People apply expectations to the Church which they do not apply elsewhere
HOSPITAL: Where sick people go
CHURCH: Full of sick people
2 Kings 6:1-7 NKJV “And the sons of the prophets said to Elisha, “See now, the place where we dwell with you is too small for us. Please, let us go to the Jordan, and let every man take a beam from there, and let us make there a place where we may dwell.” So he answered, “Go.” Then one said, “Please consent to go with your servants.” And he answered, “I will go.” So he went with them. And when they came to the Jordan, they cut down trees. But as one was cutting down a tree, the iron ax head fell into the water; and he cried out and said, “Alas, master! For it was borrowed.” So the man of God said, “Where did it fall?” And he showed him the place. So he cut off a stick, and threw it in there; and he made the iron float. Therefore he said, “Pick it up for yourself.” So he reached out his hand and took it.”
HOSPITAL: We go to the hospital
CHURCH: The hospital should come to us
When we are sick, it’s our job to get there…do not lay on floor feeling ________ for ourselves
Luke 13:10-13 NKJV “Now He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. Sabbath. And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bent over and could in no way raise herself up. But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said to her, “Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity.” And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.”
Is there something in your life that has you bent over or crooked in your soul?
When we go to Jesus and let Him ____________ us, He will “loose” us from our infirmities
HOSPITAL: You expect a bill
CHURCH: They just want my money
Most people understand that there are expenses to treat sick people
1. One Life is a vision
When we add seats, God adds _____________
2. One Life is a project
3. One Life is a spiritual journey
