The Forgiving King and the Hypocrite
This week, Pastor Resident Harrison Kerns preaches from Matthew 18:21-35, which shows us that the King who cancelled our debt has given an example of forgiveness for us to follow. Video of the worship service is available beginning Sunday at 9:30 AM at https://southviewbaptist.org/live.

1. The sacrificial forgiveness of the king (23-27).
• The king seeks fairness with an immense debt.
• Yet he desires to be merciful.
• So he takes the debt on himself.
Action: Reflect on God’s mercy; how much debt has He canceled for you?

2. The unforgiving hypocrisy of the debtor (28-30).
• Though freed of debt, the man hunts down a fellow servant.
• And the fellow servant does owe him a large amount.
• But it is still nothing compared to the first man's debt.
Action: Examine yourself; in light of God forgiving you, are you demanding payment from someone?

3. Missing the point of the Gospel (21-22, 31-35).
• The wicked servant actually belittled his debt.
• The wicked servant actually exploited the king’s mercy.
• The parable is not about keeping salvation; it is about reflecting the king. (Ephesians 4:30-5:2)
Action: Live out the Gospel like the king’s example; work on forgiving someone God places on your heart.
