Prophets and Promises - The Promise of Joy
In 2 Corinthians 1:20, Paul writes, “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ.” This season invites us to listen to the voices of the prophets—Isaiah, Micah, Zephaniah, and others who point to the divine promises of Jesus. During Advent we celebrate God’s next “yes” – his fulfilled promises in each of our lives.

Our longing for joy points us to the God who created us to delight in Him.
Joy is not a product of a problem-free life. Joy is the natural response of God drawing near.

Joy is not the absence of hardship; it is the presence of God’s salvation.
Joy OF Salvation, Psalm 51:12 — “Restore to me the joy of Your salvation.”
Forgiveness produces joy the world can’t imitate.
Joy IN His Presence, Psalm 16:11 — “In Your presence there is fullness of joy.”
Joy isn’t something we manufacture—it flows from nearness to Christ.
Joy ABOVE Circumstances, 1 Peter 1:6–8 — “You rejoice… even though you suffer… you are filled with inexpressible and glorious joy.”
Joy is not fragile—it is forged in God’s faithfulness.
Joy THROUGH His Mission, Luke 10:17, 20 — The disciples came back joyful, but Jesus redirects their joy toward the deeper reality: “Rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”
Joy grows when we live in God’s purpose.

God often grows joy in the waiting, the longing, the wrestling.
Joy is the assurance that God has come, God is with us, and God will finish what He started.
Joy is God’s ‘YES’ in Christ for our weary hearts, our discouraged spirits, and our longing souls.
Benediction:
May we move beyond the “feels” and receive the joy of the Lord—joy deeper than emotion, joy stronger than sorrow, joy rooted in Christ—Go now in the joy of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
