Series Description:
Fasting is one of the most powerful yet forgotten spiritual practices in the church today. All throughout Scripture, fasting preceded a mighty move of God—whether it was breakthrough in battle, repentance that led to revival, or fresh direction from the Lord. From Moses on the mountain, to Esther standing for her people, to Jesus beginning His ministry, God’s people have always turned to fasting to hear His voice more clearly and to prepare their hearts for what He was about to do.

In this brand-new two-part series, Lord, Teach Me How to Fast, we’ll rediscover the lost art of fasting and unlock the spiritual strength, clarity, and power that comes when we humble ourselves before God. Together, we’ll learn how fasting isn’t about what we’re giving up—it’s about Who we’re drawing close to.

As we step into the future God has for our church, we’re asking every believer to take this step of faith and commit to fasting one day each week. Let’s prepare our hearts, align with God’s will, and believe for revival in our city and beyond.
Message Description:
Fasting has always been a way God’s people unite their hearts for His presence and power. Throughout Scripture, when the people of God humbled themselves together in fasting, He showed up in mighty ways—bringing breakthrough, revival, and renewed vision.

In this season, our church is believing for more of God’s presence than ever before. We’re asking Him to pour out His Spirit, to give us fresh unity, and to move in power in our city. That’s why we’re inviting everyone to join together in a one-day food fast each week.

This isn’t about simply going without—it’s about going deeper with God. As we humble ourselves before Him in unity, we believe He will strengthen our church, align us with His will, and move in ways only He can.

Let’s fast together, pray together, and believe for God’s glory to be revealed through us.
Some things are only made possible by fasting!
Elephant in the room: Fasting is a neglected practice today
Fasting is not meant to be easy.
Very rarely does the path of least resistance lead anywhere worth going!
We are inviting everyone to fast from food sunup to sundown one day this week, and make this a habit.
WHY should I fast?
WHAT should I fast for?
Nineveh took a posture of humility
What went hand in hand with the repentance of Nineveh? PRAYER AND FASTING
These are the prayers that carried me through the fasts of one of the hardest times in my life:

1. Lord take me
2. Lord break me
3. Lord shape me
The biggest reason we fast is to become more familiar with the heartbeat of OUR shepherd
In the midst of my fasting, in the process of being taken, broken, and shaped, I felt the heartbeat of my father
If you are craving the heartbeat of God, it's time to start fasting
TALK IT OVER

1. What is your current view of fasting?
Has it been a regular part of your walk with God, or is it something new or uncomfortable for you?

2. The message mentioned fasting as a “second-level” practice that takes rather than adds.
What does this mean to you, and why do you think that kind of sacrifice is spiritually valuable?

3. In Mark 9:29, Jesus said, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.”
What kinds of "this kind" situations are in your life right now that might require deeper spiritual discipline?

4. Logan fasted and prayed the rhythm: “Lord take me, Lord break me, Lord shape me.”
Which of those three prayers resonates with you most right now, and why?

5. How does fasting help remove the distractions and "clutter" that keep us from hearing God's voice?
Can you name any specific distractions in your life that might be dulling your spiritual sensitivity?

6. The message used the metaphor of the shepherd carrying the sheep, with the sheep learning the sound of the shepherd’s heartbeat.
What does that image mean to you personally? Have you ever felt “carried” by God in that way?

7. The city of Nineveh responded to God's warning with fasting and repentance.
How do you think fasting ties in with repentance? Is it a lost practice in today’s church?

8. What fears, hesitations, or questions do you have about trying a fast for the first time (or again)?
How can we support you in that?

9. The message ended with an invitation to try fasting from sunup to sundown.
What would you like to seek God for during the fast?

10. What would it look like for you to become more familiar with the “heartbeat” of God?
How might that change your decisions, relationships, or spiritual life moving forward?
