Pursuing the Heart of God | Place Your Confidence in the Lord
This week, Pastor Nathan Wakefield continues our sermon series, Pursuing the Heart of God. In 1 Samuel 17:1‑37, we see that it took a young boy to remind the people that their confidence was misplaced and needed to be returned to confidence in the Lord. Video of the worship service is available beginning Sunday at 9:30 AM at https://southviewbaptist.org/live.

1. If your faith is in man then you need to remember: There is always a bigger fish! (1‑11)
• The people had placed their confidence in Saul (1 Samuel 8:20).
• But the Philistines had a more formidable warrior than Saul (1 Samuel 17:1‑7).
• When you put your trust in a mere man you take an incredible risk (1 Samuel 17:8‑11).
Action: Think about your biggest source of anxiety and then turn that over to God.

2. Just because you are on the sidelines does not mean you don't have a role to play (12‑24).
• When life seems mundane, God may be working (12‑16).
• The ordinary day that changed everything (17‑19).
• Godly obedience opens the door for divine opportunity (20‑24).
Action: Live life, but be ready to respond if God calls you.

3. Calling people back to God may not be easy, but that doesn't mean you shouldn’t do it (25‑37).
• You may find that those who should know better are focused on the wrong thing (25‑27).
• You may find that your help and direction are not wanted (28‑30).
• You may need to bring people’s focus back to the living God (31‑37).
Action: Seek to point people to God.
