Series Description:
During difficult times, negativity can seem like the easy choice. But it's not the best choice. Change your perspective and find some encouragement to help you “Stay Positive!”
Message Description:

So many of us are searching—trying to find meaning in success, relationships, or status—only to end up empty and disappointed. What if the very things we thought would fill us are actually the things keeping us broken?

In the Bible, a woman at a well carried the weight of a painful past and a shattered identity. She was rejected, alone, and out of hope—until one she encountered Jesus…. and Jesus changed everything!

Today as we finish our Stay Positive Series we turn to Jesus who gives us a new identity, a fresh start, and a living hope that never fades.
Woman at the well

Jesus is our Hope because we find our identity in Him.

This woman had a broken identity for her time.
How did Jesus give her hope in spite of her identities?

Our living hope is in Jesus, His death, His burial, His resurrection.
Repeat after me: Jesus plus nothing!
TALK IT OVER

Identity and Hope in Christ
1. What are some things you've found your identity in—
success, relationships, work, etc.—and how has that
shaped your sense of self?
2. What do you think it means to have your identity fully in
Christ? How is that different from what the world offers?
3. The Samaritan woman had many strikes against her by
societal standards. What does her encounter with Jesus tell
you about how God sees people?

Living Water and Eternal Hope
4. Jesus offered the woman “living water.” What do you think
He meant by that? How does that relate to your current
spiritual condition?
5. How would you describe the difference between temporary
satisfaction (like water from the well) and eternal
satisfaction (like the living water Jesus offers)?
6. How has Jesus brought you hope in a situation that seemed
hopeless or broken?

Breaking Down Barriers
7. Why was it significant that Jesus, a Jewish man, initiated a
conversation with a Samaritan woman?
8. What modern-day barriers—social, racial, cultural—do you
think Jesus would cross today to bring hope? How can we
follow His example?
9. How can the church today better reflect the radical
inclusion and value Jesus showed the woman at the well?

Transformation and Testimony
10. The woman left her water jar and ran to tell others
about Jesus. What does that say about her transformation?
11. What “water jar” might you be holding on to—
something that represents an old identity or need?
12. Who is someone in your life who needs to hear your
story of encountering Jesus? What’s holding you back from
sharing it?

Living Hope and True Worship
13. 1 Peter 1:3-4 talks about a “living hope” through the
resurrection of Jesus. What does that practically look like in
your life?
14. Jesus said true worshipers worship in Spirit and truth.
What does that look like for you personally—beyond
Sunday mornings?
15. “Jesus plus nothing” was a key phrase in the message.
How does this challenge the way the world (and sometimes
even Christians) add to the gospel?
