Going Deeper is designed for use with your small group, a friend, or alone. It aims to create time for you to spend with God and his word, and apply it to your life. Please feel free to use whatever questions that will help you and your group discuss.
1. Opening Prayer : Begin by asking God to open your hearts and minds to understand His character more deeply as revealed in His Word.
2. Introduction.
The fifth attribute of God revealed in Exodus 34:6-7 is His faithfulness—a quality so foundational to His character that the entire biblical story hinges on it. In a world where promises are easily broken and trust is often misplaced, God’s faithfulness stands as a steady and immovable anchor. The Hebrew word often used here is 'emet', which conveys more than just “truth” or “honesty”—it speaks of firmness, reliability, and trustworthiness. God’s 'emet' means He is utterly dependable—He does not forget, He does not change, and He does not abandon what He has begun. His faithfulness isn’t reactive to our performance; it flows from who He is. Whether in the wilderness with Israel or in the chaos of our daily lives, God remains constant. He keeps covenant not because we are deserving, but because He is devoted.

3. Start Talking.
How is God's faithfulness/trustworthiness different from other definitions of trust we see in the world today? How does our worldly view of faithfulness (and specifically our knowledge of how unfaithful people can be) affect how we view God?

4. Start Thinking.
What’s the difference between saying “I believe in God” and actually living in a way that shows trust in Him?
Where might those two things look different in our daily lives?
How can we learn from Abraham to see the answer lived out?

5. Start Exploring
a) Read Psalm 31:6: How do you relate to this verse? Do you resonate with the author or are you feeling convicted? In your own life, would you say you are being faithful to God right now?
What does faithfulness look like practically in your stage of life (e.g., work, family, spiritual habits)?
b) Read 2 Corinthians 1:20: Jesus is the ultimate fulfillment of God’s promise—how does that encourage you to trust God more deeply today?
How does trusting Jesus help you see God’s faithfulness in a new light?

6. Start Sharing.
a) When you look at Israel’s story, they often expected God to be faithful even when they were not.
Do we sometimes assume the same today? How do we balance grace with responsibility in our walk with God?
b) How do you respond when it feels like God is silent or slow to fulfill His promises?
What helps you stay grounded during those seasons?

7. Start Praying.
Be bold and pray with power.
Heavenly Father,
We come before You with grateful hearts, anchored in the assurance that You are always faithful. In a world full of broken promises and shifting loyalties, You remain steadfast—unchanging, unwavering, and true. Thank You for being a God we can trust completely, whose words never fail and whose covenant stands firm forever.
Even when we are inconsistent, You are constant. Even when we wander, You pursue. You are not only trustworthy in the big moments, but in the quiet, hidden places of our lives. Teach us to rest in Your reliability, to find peace in Your promises, and to live with confidence because You are who You say You are.
Empower us by Your Spirit to reflect this same faithfulness—to be dependable in love, loyal in friendship, and steadfast in our witness to a world that desperately needs Your truth.
In the name of our faithful Saviour, Jesus Christ, we pray.
Amen.

8. Start Doing.
If someone asked you, “Why should I trust God?”—what story from your life or Scripture would you tell them?
How can we become better at sharing those stories as a way to build faith in others?
