Kingdom: The Ascent Pt 3 - Jesus & The Law
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus lays out a bold vision for life in the Kingdom of God—one that doesn’t just tweak our behavior, but transforms our hearts. From salt and light to loving enemies, from anger to integrity, we're called to higher ground. This summer, we’ll climb verse by verse through these challenging teachings, discovering how to live with purpose, purity, and passion in a world that desperately needs the hope of Jesus. It’s not an easy ascent, but the view is worth it.

Unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees… you won’t enter the Kingdom.
Surpasses
Jesus didn’t come to make good people better. He came to give dead people life.
The righteousness that surpasses the Pharisees isn’t human effort, it’s a divine exchange.
When we try sanitize the Bible, we miss the full picture.

3. Read It in Their World, Not Ours
• When we pull a verse out of cultural context and say, “Why didn’t God just say what we’d say today?” We’re missing the point.
• The law was divine justice tailored to a historical moment.
• When we pull a verse out of cultural context and say, “Why didn’t God just say what we’d say today?” We’re missing the point.
• The law was divine justice tailored to a historical moment.
God was speaking into a brutal, broken world, where women had almost no rights and no protection.
In that cultural moment, it was radical mercy in a world full of injustice.
Jesus wasn’t ignoring the seriousness of sin. He was revealing the full weight of it and offering Himself as the payment.
In the cross God’s justice wasn’t erased, it was absorbed.
The law shows us how far we are from God. Jesus shows us how far God went to come close to us.
Where judgment would crush you, mercy kneels beside you.
He’s not trying to crush you with pressure, He’s trying to lead you with presence.
You’re not climbing alone.
