Living the Life, Not a Label
Part 2
June 29, 2025
We really believe we know better than God!
Instant gratification…is the arch-nemesis of obedience.
Disobedience has a quick expiration date, most times, just moments after the purchase!
Disobedience distances us from God.
[Our] sins (our disobedience) have cut [us] off from God. Because of [our] sins, he has turned away and will not listen anymore.
Isaiah 59:2 (New Living Translation, Emphasis added)
“Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m such a sinful man.”
Luke 5:8 (NLT)
One day as Jesus was preaching on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, great crowds pressed in on him to listen to the word of God.

He noticed two empty boats at the water’s edge, for the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets.

Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked Simon, its owner, to push it out into the water. So he sat in the boat and taught the crowds from there.
Luke 5:1-3 (NLT)
Obeying God in the little things blesses those around us.
Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.
Ephesians 4:29 (NLT)
Obeying God in the little things blesses those around us.
When [Jesus] had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.”

“Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing.

…if you say so [Jesus], I’ll let the nets down again.”

…their nets were so full of fish they began to tear!

A shout for help brought their partners in the other boat, and soon both boats were filled with fish and on the verge of sinking.
Luke 5:4-7 (NLT, Emphasis added)
Obeying God in small things sets us up to receive God’s greatest blessings.
I lay the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected—even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject me.

But I lavish unfailing love for a thousand generations on those who love me and obey my commands.
Exodus 20:5–6 (NLT)
Obeying God in small things sets us up to receive God’s greatest blessings.
When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m such a sinful man.”

For he was awestruck by the number of fish they had caught, as were the others with him.

His partners, James and John, the sons of Zebedee, were also amazed. (act out)
Jesus replied to Simon, “Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!”

And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus.
Luke 5:8–11 (NLT)
Obeying God brings change, purpose, and adventure to our life.
Obedience never disappoints.
Obedience gets easier with study and fellowship.
Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.
Joshua 1:8 (NLT)
Obedience gets easier with study and fellowship.
Obedience starts with repentance.
Be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.
Matthew 5:48 (NLT)
