1. We can miss out on the kingdom of heaven.

“Correct orthodox belief will not give us eternal life.” (The Sermon on the Mount, Hughes, 259).

2. We can enter the kingdom of heaven.

“These people have twisted the ways of God and made them unequal. ‘I never knew you,’ Jesus says, meaning, ‘You never had my Spirit; you spoke the truth and God honored it, but you were never of the truth,’ And then, the most appallingly isolating and condemning words that could be said to a human soul, ‘Depart from Me.’” (Studies in the Sermon on the Mount, Chambers, 97)
